Weekend Distractions

Posted by Crystal K. Wiebe on Fri, Jan 22, 2010 at 8:00 AM

1. Eat out. Today is the kick-off for Kansas City Restaurant Week. More than 90 local eateries are offering tasty discounts, and a portion of proceeds benefits Harvesters.

2. Pose for the paparazzi. Devotees of Lady Gaga and Madonna will gather, in costume, at the Uptown Theater's Conspiracy Room tonight at 9 for Night of Fame, a night of glitter, pastel drinks, drag performances, music videos and photography.

3. Ogle ice sculptures. Starting at noon Saturday, chefs and culinary students will shave blocks of ice into works of art at Crown Center.

4. Ponder faith diversity. At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council will celebrate the music, art and storytelling of various faith traditions during Winter's Light, an event at the Avila University's Goppert Theater.

5. Add something to your bucket list. That's the kind of thinking that may be inspired by performance artist Rebecca Nagle's show, "A Dozen Things I Want to do On Stage," happening at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fishtank Performance Studio.

See The Pitch calendar for more things to do every day of the week.
