Ezra T. Richardson was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder in the death of Lorne Mabon.
Mabon, 19, was fatally shot near 29th and Indiana on October 13, 2009.
Richardson, 17, was also charged with armed criminal action.
Court records say Richardson's brother told police that he saw Richardson fire eight
rounds at Mabon. He also told police that Richardson told him, "I got
off on them suckas."
Police questioned Richardson last night. Richardson denied being
present at the time of the shooting, saying he was with his grandmother
and brother (the same one who claimed that he saw Richardson fire eight rounds at Mabon) at the time of the homicide.
Court records gave several witness accounts. A witness told police that
he and Mabon had exited a metro bus at 31st Street and were walking
north on Indiana. The witness noticed a man and a woman walking in
front of them and three black men walking on the west side of Indiana.
The witness claimed the men were making "shooting gestures" at the
couple. Then the witness heard gunshots and bullets whizzed over his
and Mabon's heads. The witness returned fire with a .40 caliber handgun
but lost sight of the victim. The witness didn't know Mabon had been
shot. The witness told police that the suspect was a black male wearing
a black jacket.
Another witness told police that Mabon was shot because he had the letters "E" and "S" for East Side tattooed on his hands.
And another witness told police that he heard Richardson say "I got him" following the shooting.
A man who claimed that he was walking with Richardson prior to the shooting told police police that Richardson knocked on his
back door and said, "I hit the suckas up," which meant he shot them.
The man said Richardson received a chrome .380 caliber handgun from a
person at a gas station prior to the homicide. The man also said that
Mabon and his friend had called them "suckas" before the shooting.
