Why save your fun times for the weekend? There's something cool happening in the metro on every day that ends in y.

Today

Kansas City Design Week
, five days of forums, panels, lectures and exhibitions pertaining to all forms of design, kick off today with remarks by former Mayor Kay Barnes at 5:30 p.m. at 1801 McGee.

Today is also the kick-off for District Restaurant Week, seven days of deals at 21 downtown eateries, including Raglan Road Irish Pub.

Tuesday

Step up to the mic at Stanford's Comedy Club and exercise your funny bone. Every Tuesday is open mic night.

Wednesday

Enjoy acoustica at the Bulldog, which hosts Troubadour's Music Club every Wednesday from 8 to 11 p.m. This week's songbirds are Mikal Shapiro and Jenny Carr (plus, as always, a performance by event organizer Kirsten Paludan).

Thursday

Get to know Hugh Hefner. He won't be in town, but his biographer will be. At 6:30 p.m. the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library hosts Steven Watts, who will discuss his new book Mr. Playboy: Hugh Hefner and the American Dream.
