Claire McCaskill stumps Admiral Mullen in Don't Ask, Don't Tell hearing

Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton has been getting flack for putting off hearings about Don't Ask, Don't Tell in his House Armed Services Committee. But Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill came out firing when the Senate Armed Services Committee took on the hot topic yesterday.

The committee heard testimony from Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who said that "allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly would be the right thing to do." Defense Secretary Robert Gates also supported a repeal of the policy that requires gay service members keep their sexual orientation secret or risk expulsion.

But both officials asked for a year to review the policy. That's where McCaskill asked a great question that Mullen couldn't exactly answer. Watch the first three minutes of the video for McCaskill's inquiry.

Such a great moment of clearing-away the rhetoric and getting down to brass tacks.
