OK, so synthetic marijuana is on its way to being outlawed in Kansas. So let's legalize medical marijuana!
Kansas state Rep. Gail Finney introduced a bill to make marijuana legal with a doctor's script. You can imagine how popular this is among Sunflower State lawmakers.
Finney, a Wichita Democrat who has lupus, says it's the right thing to do for people with chronic health issues.
Take state Rep. Scott Schwab, who told The Kansas City Star:
"It has no benefit for pain management. All it does is make you crave another bag of chips."Scott Schwab ... not a doctor. However, the American Medical Association is full of them, and the AMA's Council on Science and Public Health found that "smoked cannabis reduces neuropathic pain, improves appetite and caloric intake especially in patients with reduced muscle mass, and may relieve spasticity and pain in patients with multiple sclerosis."

Many states also require that a certificate of merit before a
malpractice lawsuit is filed which requires a report from a medical
doctor that the doctor accused of negligence breached the standard of
care and caused injury to the Plaintiff.

Contrary to our perceptions of methadone addicts belonging to the lowest social and economic strata, national research in the UK has indicated that the use of illegal methadone is not restricted to any particular section of society, and is associated with a general increase in the abuse of prescription painkillers.
I am excited to finally share with you some positive news regarding the Medical Marijuana Act Bill HB2610. This week on the front page of the USA Today there was an article regarding State Actions on Legalizing Marijuana and they mentioned Kansas with a brief quote from me. Also, yesterday evening, the Kansas Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Brenda Landwehr scheduled an Informational presentation on medicinal marijuana for Wednesday, March 17th at 1:30 pm in room 784 at the Docking Building.

I agree with most of you, but the negative approach is the wrong way. With all of the problems in the economy it almost seems selfish to push for Marijuana to be legalized, right? Not for medicinal use, not for the economic boost, couldn't be because of any of that... Write your house representatives. make a change.

If you want it legal for legitimate medicinal use have drug companies make THC and make it into pill format like the rest of "medicinal" drugs out there.
Wow, already banning that. They must be bored.
Thats okay though :)
Back to the real stuff!!!!
I disagree with Representative Schwab and plan to call him at 785-296-7632 or perhaps email him at scott.schwab@house.ks.gov and let him know how I feel.
I was forced to take prescription drugs for ten years due to a chronic illness. The protocol for treatment of this disease is the same as n stage cancer treatment. For all of you questioning if marijuana should be legal for medicinal purposes shall I suggest that you take a closer look at the side effects of narcotics? Constipation, Bowel impaction, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, excessive sleep, insomnia, loss/lowered sex drive, sexual dysfunction, and that's just to name a few. These of course are considered to be minor side effects. I personally lived with these side effects for ten years NONE of them are minor.
I wanted to get a medical recommendation because I knew that marijuana has none of these side effects but my insurance had a strict policy of canceling ANY and ALL claims where the patient sought this option out. I was living in Ca. and as everyone in the world knows its been legal there for years. The medication that the insurance company pushed on me and my treating physicians was of all things Methadone! Most people do no realize that Methadone is more addictive than street heroin and it build up to toxic levels in your blood stream. People also do not realize that this EVIL man-made drug is used far more often on terminally ill or chronic pain patients because it is cheap to make and the cheapest option for the insurance companies. Only .03-.07 cents per tablet.
It kills the patient quickly so that insurance companies do not have to pay out for long periods of time.
Another side effect of narcotics that you never hear about is denitis. I know exactly what this means in day to day life. Due the medication that my insurance company forced my doctor to prescribe I no longer have any teeth. I am not even 40 years old and most people assume that I lost my teeth do to meth. It makes it harder to find work in a messed up job market.
I currently have closed my claim with my insurance and obtained a medical recommendation from California. Since I have started taking this all natural medicine I live a completely pain free life. Something I was told that even with a Morphine Pump I would never be able to do.
Debate whether Pot should be legal? I think you should instead debate why its not instead!
This issue needs to go beyond the debate stage. What idiocy for politicians to say they are pro-choice with abortion and in the same breath demand penalties for illicit drug users. All illicit substances should be fully legalized, regulated, and taxed, just like alcohol.California has proved(especially san francisco)that dispensaries can and are like any other business in the community. What i choose to put in my body, regardless of it being heroin, coke,LSD,or marijuana is nobodies and I mean NOBODIES business but mine.As long as I am not harming anothers' life, property,or liberty, well then..... fuck you!!!! A couple of things for you to ponder.Has any one ever stopped to ask themselves why there has never been a constitutional amendment outlawing the possession, use, manufacturing or distributing of any so called illegal drugs.Remember that in order for alcohol to be prohibited, there was a constitutional amendment to make it so.Apparently if you go by the constitution all drugs are legal(by the way I know the real reason why government never had a constitutional convention to outlaw drugs)One more thing. The WAR ON DRUGS was institutionalized by "Tricky,I think his nose is a dick" Nixon.Congress approved billions of dollars to fund this war.First thing this was a domestic war declared against the citizens of the u.s.Look at the emergency war powers act. Two,if there is a declared war against the user's or sellers of drugs then that means that every single person in the u.s.would be a prisoner of war.I am not aware of any lawyers who have taken the u.s.government to court demanding that everyone in jail or prison be afforded the rights of a prisoner of war under the Geneva Convention. This Should give some insight as to what is really going on.THIS IS MARTIAL LAW.How long will it take you fuckers to realize this.MARTIAL LAW is not coming it was here long before you were born.Actually the u.s had its roots in Martial Law.Remember boys and girls?George Washington was the First Commander In Chief.(i.e.military commander)Therefore this country was born under Martial Law.To be continued.......
If all it does is cause you to crave potato chips then why is it illegal? If that's the case, pregnancy should be illegal.
I'm going to take a wild guess that Scott Schwab has never smoked weed.
Great comment gro4me, glad to have people like you as living proof that medical marijuana works. It's too bad these politicians think they are the medical experts, rather than people who have experienced it first hand or the doctors at Harvard that have also endorsed marijuana.
Although I do not have any medical conditions I too have smoked when sick. It has worked for me when I've had food poisoning, alleviating the stomach pains.
In 1993 I was diagnosed with the most advanced case of thyroid cancer ever seen in a living patient at Oregon Health Sciences University. They gave me a 50% chance of surviving 6 months and offered me experimental treatment. For over 7 years I saw Teams of Department Heads and their teams of Specialists every month. I was taking 25-35 pills a day to cope with the symptoms of cancer and radiation poisoning. I weighed 92 pounds. I saw my doctor every month and still wound up fighting for my life in the ER 10 times a year.
And then in 1999 I joined the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. Within 6 months I was off of all pills except 2 hormone replacements. In the 10 years since I have been on the program, I have only had to go to ER 1 time, for food poisoning.I only saw my doctor 1 time this year: to renew my OMMP card. My weight is up to 126 pounds - a body mass increase of 30%! Over all, I have reduced my Healthcare costs by at least 85%.
Way to go Ms. Finney! It's great to see some people in public office with some common sense approaching cannabis with intelligence and compassion.
As for Scott Schwab, what a numbnut. What the hell does he know about using cannabis? Obviously nothing. His immature and inane comment about it simply proves that he's operating on the proven-false, propaganda-based stereotypes and lies that have plagued cannabis for the past 100 years. The man needs some serious education. If he can't get it, then why the hell is he still in office?
There is so much proof that cannabis helps people with cronic pain and other ailments. I can testify to that, as well. And what the hell is wrong with someone wanting to come home after a long day and relax with a little bit of God's great green herb instead of some cancer-causing booze?
America is waking up to the truth and demanding change in cannabis laws. Some politicians sure are slow to catch on. The people need to keep on them to make them see the truth and work for US instead of their own special interests.
