Kansas Republicans want to suggest that Gov. Mark Parkinson is so unpopular, the dead are breaking out of crypts to express their displeasure.
On January 28, the state GOP issued a press release in reaction to a measure of Parkinson's approval ratings. A poll conducted by SurveyUSA in January found that 42 percent of 600 adults think the governor is doing a good job.
So, of course, the Kansas Republican Party released a statement asserting that Parkinson's approval rating was -1.
UPDATE: This post is a corrected version of an earlier entry.
A negative approval rating is a mathematical impossibility. Even if the 600 Kansas surveyed had all said the disapproved of Parkinson (43 percent did; the rest were undecided), his approval rating would be zero.
Amanda Adkins, the chair of the party, elaborated:
These numbers are startling. Mark Parkinson has entered Obama territory. Obama and Parkinson are the only public officials with net negative ratings in the latest SurveyUSA Kansas poll.Adkins' statement is a bit more helpful. The "net" recognizes that something is being subtracted from something. At the same time, the "startling" one-point difference in Parkinson's "approve" and "disapprove" scores falls within the poll's 4.1-point margin of error.

David - nice try with your own spin on Amanda Adkin's comment - as the release states, her reaction is to the Jan 11st poll conducted by SurveyUSA - not the December one you reference. And in the world of politics a negative rating is something to be concerned about... obviously you had a hard time finding the correct survey results so here it is for you and your readers....
