Jason Whitlock's return to 610 Sports is not imminent, contrary to the Internet rumor. "I've had no conversations with Jason about a job here," Ryan Maguire, the program director at the AM sports-talk station, says.
Someone using the handle "bigsexy," Whitlock's nickname, announced a March 1 start date on kcforum.net Monday night. "It's going to be good to do talk radio again," the typist said. "Can't wait."
Whitlock hosted an afternoon show on 610 before abruptly quitting on March 1, 2005.
The Whitlock rumor comes at a time of time of change for KCSP, which consistently lags 810 WHB in the ratings. At the beginning of the year, Maguire brought in Bob Fescoe, who once worked at 810, to man the morning slot Roger Twibell had occupied. Afternoon co-host Cory "Cowboy" Anderson left the station last week.
Anderson's former partner, Chris Hamblin, is working with guest hosts until Maguire makes a decision about the future of the show. This week, Chief Bill Maas is sitting in.
As for Whitlock, Maguire says The Kansas City Star columnist's name tends to get passed around any time KCSP makes a change. "If Jason has something going on, I'd love to hear about it," Maguire says.
A call to Whitlock was not immediately returned. His Twitter feed was silent on the matter as of noon Tuesday.
