Last year, Forbes called Kansas City the eighth emptiest city in America.
This year, the news doesn't get any better: Forbes ranks KC 13th in its list of "America's 20 Most Miserable Cities." Just how did they come to that ranking:
High taxes and crime rates hurt Kansas City's standing, but what moved them up our misery list were its two awful pro sports teams. The Royals and Chiefs combined finished outside of last place only once in the past three years. Thanks for nothing, Chiefs and Royals. Not sure what that says about us that we hitch our happiness to sports franchises.
1. Cleveland, Ohio
2. Stockton, California
3. Memphis, Tennessee
4. Detroit, Michigan
5. Flint, Michigan
Cleveland? At least they have LeBron James. Guess if he leaves the Cavs in free agency this summer, they'll have the No. 1 spot locked down.

The only thing about the Chiefs and Royals that make me miserable is that we are forced to subsidize their billionaire owners and millionaire players, along with their mediocrity and boorishness.
