Based on the three-hour debates reps in the Kansas House engage in, maybe they haven't noticed we have a $400 million deficit.
On Wednesday, the House debated a bill that would alter life insurance regulation. But that wasn't enough -- no, no -- because some reps decided to tack on a provision that would stop insurers from covering abortions, except when the pregnancy threatens the mother's life. Women who still wanted abortions would have to pay a higher rate, and they'd have to make sure they bought all of their insurance before they got pregnant. Of course, that's hard to plan as the legislation doesn't have any exceptions for rape or incest. No exceptions for fetal abnormalities, either.
Then the reps who didn't like the abortion addition decided to tack on a
few amendments of their own. So they added a measure that would raise
costs for smokers if they get sick, because we shouldn't have to pay for
that. Then Ann Mah, a Topeka Democrat, proposed getting rid of
Viagra coverage. Hey, a lot of insurers don't cover birth control for women, so if the ladies can't get birth control, why should
the old dudes get coverage for an erection that no one wants to see?
Actually, that was a pretty awesome counter on Mah's part.
When
all of this was finally over, this once innocuous measure was sent back
to committee so loaded with bullshit it's likely nothing will ever get
done.

Have these people lost their minds? Banning fake weed and now this. Hey maybe next week they'll look into those unspeakable and highly corruptive adult novelty shops. I hear they are really screwing this town up. In two months when they start making up excuses as to why they can't pay back income tax refunds I hope every lawmaker is taken to task for these complete shams that are only serving as distractions for their own personal failures.
