WWE's The Undertaker burned (for real) before last night's match in St. Louis

The Undertaker was making his usual slow stroll to the wrestling ring at last night's Elimination Chamber pay-per-event in St. Louis when flames shot from the stage and engulfed him -- just like Metallica's James Hetfield. "The Dead Man," as WWE fans know him, took off running, ripping off his burning coat and World Championship belt. See for yourself (thanks to TMZ).

Watching the show last night, I had no idea that he'd been burned,

other than the the visible pink patch of skin on his chest. But a

now-pulled YouTube video shot by a fan showed it all.

The outcome could have been a lot worse (as Kansas City wrestling fans know well).

The Undertaker went on to lose his match to the always cocky Chris Jericho, who got a huge assist from Shawn Michaels' "Sweet Chin Music."

Our friends at the Riverfront Times

talked with a WWE spokesman, who called the incident "a mistiming with

the pyrotechnics" and added that 'Taker was only allowed to go on with

the match after being cleared by a ringside doctor.

"Thank

God he was fine," WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman said. "It basically amounted to a sunburn.

It wasn't over a large area of his body, just a short area, just a

little bit on his chest."

Zimmerman told the RFT that he's not sure if WWE will stop using flames for The Undertaker's entrance.

"I don't know. I haven't

spoken to anyone to find out what was the cause, if it was timing, if

there was something wrong with whatever. We have to go back and

investigate and make a final determination."
