Last year, Kansas Jayhawk Cole Aldrich told me that he was most excited about with this school year wasn't chasing a Big 12 title (although the Jayhawks just clinched at least a share of it on Monday) but becoming an Academic

All-American (the interview was part of The Pitch's Best of 2009 awards).

"I'm really close right now," the 6-foot-11 center con communications major told me. "If I have a real good

semester, I can get to be Academic All-American. That would be huge"

Huge is right. Aldrich is the first person in his

immediate family to go to college.

Well, he made it. The University Daily Kansan reported that ESPN The Magazine named Aldrich the College Sports Information Directors of America All-American of the Year on Monday.

Congrats, Cole.

Nice going Cole - long ways from the days of Cub Scouts with Robert and the rest of them.
