Sonny Julian Guirmo Chavarria-Gonzalez was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 20 years in connection with the death of Carol S. Thomas.
Thomas, 48, was found dead in an apartment at 1215 Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, on July 28.
Chavarria-Gonzalez, a 28-year-old Guatemalan national, also received a 24-month consecutive sentence for aggravated robbery.
FBI agents arrested him in Chicago on August 11, 2009.
