Kansas didn't need the automatic NCAA Tournament bid that comes with winning the Big 12 Tournament. But they took it anyway, outlasting Kansas State to add more hardware to their trophy case.

The win locked the Jayhawks into a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The selection committee was so impressed that they deemed the Jayhawks the best in the land, giving them the top seed overall and the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Oklahoma City. A win gets them either Northern Iowa or the Runnin' Rebels of UNLV.

K-State also fared well, grabbing a No. 2 seed and a trip to OKC. The Wildcats are paired with North Texas at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday. A K-State win gets them either BYU or Florida.

Getting bounced in the first round of the conference tournament didn't help Missouri's standing come Selection Sunday. The Tigers received a No. 10 seed and will meet Clemson at 1:45 p.m on Friday in Buffalo. The Tigers road the Sweet Sixteen won't be easy. A victory could lead them to Bob Huggins and No. 2 West Virginia.

Ahhh... the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, at one time, the Engineers. They searched long and hard for their current name about 15 years ago when they figured out that "Engineers" was only marginally more intimidating than the Fighting Quakers of Penn (to their south). I believe "Packers" was among consideration at the time (for Lehigh founder Asa Packer), but given their brown & white uniforms, some found that option problematic.
