Now that the fake marijuana is outlawed in Kansas, we can get to legalizing the real stuff.
Kansas state Rep. Gail Finney's bill (read it after the jump) that would authorize "compassionate care centers" where Kansas-grown
pot would be dispensed on physicians' orders gets a hearing before the House Health and Human Services Committee this afternoon at 1:30 in room 784 of the Docking Building.
Finney, a Wichita Democrat, has lupus, which makes her sympathetic to those coping with illness.
Last month, she explained to KSN-TV in Wichita, "There are people that silently use marijuana for their pain and for
their comfort and I don't think they should be penalized for it."
The American Medical Association's Council on Science and Public Health has found that
"smoked cannabis reduces neuropathic pain, improves appetite and
caloric intake especially in patients with reduced muscle mass, and may
relieve spasticity and pain in patients with multiple sclerosis."
The
bill isn't likely to pass this year. But the hearing will be good for
educating lawmakers, who shouldn't fear backlash from their
constituents if they were to vote for medical Mary Jane. Most Kansans want medical marijuana legalized. A SurveyUSA poll showed 58 percent of Kansans support legalization. Lawmakers just have to have the guts to fight and vote for it.

Useful post, indeed Good blog actuallly. Nice timing for me actually as I was looking into all this information when stumbling across you :-) I will subscribe, keep up the useful work. Peace
Kansas needs to just go ahead and legalize pot. There's no good reason for it to be illegal. If the state was smart they'd legalize it but keep it a state monopoly, kinda like beer stores in some other states. It doesn't cost very much to grow, and if they kept the current prices the state would have a surplus of funds in no time at all.
I know it's a long shot but I really hope this passes. I have a friend who suffers from MS. He has to take all types of pills to help him through the day, only to be unsattisfied with the results. I know around here where I live marijuana is socially unacceptable, but only because of the bad name it has caught throughout the years. The thing is, if you keep an open mind and actually do your homework you will find that marijuana is way more good than bad. That being said, marijuana isn't all good, it's not healthy to smoke anything. But there are ways around inhaling the smoke. For instance, a vaporizer, it heats the marijuana up hot enough to extract the thc from the marijuana without all the carcinogens. Once again, you don't necessarily have to smoke marijuana to reap the benefits. Thc can be extracted from the plant and put into all types of edibles like cookies, brownies, ice cream, butter, etc etc.. Anything you can cook with it can be used. I know if I had the choice to take an addicting pain pill every four hours or smoke a tiny bit of marijuana as needed to ease my pain i'd choose marijuana.
That being said not only does it help medically but it will help economically and globally. It will provide jobs for Kansans, and marijuana takes in more carbon monoxide than any other plant. So, why would we deny people this great medicine? I can't think of a reason other than ignorance.
Put your thinking caps on Kansas!
