Emanuel Cleaver spit on, called 'n' word by tea partiers but still votes for health-care reform

  • Sadly, Emanuel Cleaver has heard racial slurs before.

Calling Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II the "n-word" and spitting on him isn't the way to winning his vote. Go figure. Cleaver wouldn't be bullied and voted for health-care reform, which passed the House 219-212 last night, sending the bill to President Obama to sign into law.

Earlier this weekend. tea party protesters chanted "Kill the bill, nigger" at Cleaver and members of the Congressional Black Caucus who attended a speech on health care by the president on Saturday.

"It was a chorus," Cleaver told McClatchy Newspapers. "In a way, I

feel sorry for those people who are doing this

nasty stuff -- they're being whipped up. ... I decided I wouldn't be angry

with any of them."

The Washington

Post reported that Cleaver was spit on while walking to the

Capitol to vote, which led Capitol Police to escort him inside the

building "out of concern for his safety." The spitter was arrested, but

Cleaver declined

to press charges.

"This is not the first time the congressman has been called

the "n" word and certainly not the worst assault he has endured in his

years fighting for equal rights for all Americans," said Danny Rotert,

Cleaver's spokesman. "That being said, he is disappointed that in the

21st century our national discourse has devolved to the point of

name-calling and spitting."

The ugliness wasn't just racist. It was homophobic. Congressman Barney

Frank was also reportedly called

a "faggot"

Republicans and Tea Partiers are disowning

the spitters, racists and homophobes. Although there are deniers who

claim this was all orchestrated by Democrats or a fabrication by

Cleaver. By the way, Congressmen John Lewis, Andre Carson and

House Majority

Whip James Clyburn all confirmed the story.

York Times).

You can't make a charge if there was no crime, no video or audio even though the whole thing was recorded. Also no one to support Cleavers claims - a "Chant"? Come on!!!

Boy, Emanuel Cleaver can not catch a break. He was the victim of these radical Progressives when he supported Hilary in 2008 and complained about them. Now this article shows he was part of this scam.. which of course back fired because of the many videos... And still he one of the 83 members of the Progressive Caucus... Past associations with Rev Wright? Lets check...

There has been reward money offered for anyone who can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the n word was used. That being said you would think that with money on the line, and with news ratings that would soar there would be at least one video that could be used to show without a doubt that n word was used, however there isnt and the whole walk into the congress was filmed. Politics is always politics and what better way to discredit a group than to label them racist and extremist, but the g20 protest with their pro violence demostrations and looting and destruction of private property is labeled an exercise of democracy, however when a tea party member demonstrates it is labeled violent and racist, however the video evidence is quite clear that this the farthest from the truth.

Cleaver is another race card player using his color to justify his stupidity and lack of knowledge to do his job properly. This man was never called the 'N' word and has recanted any claim of this even happening. Another lump of fecal matter making decisions that affect other peoples lives. Get used to it ... seems to be the Democratic party montra as they turn us back to a nation of racial turmoil and division. The era of journalism rolling over dead for profit instead of truth is upon us.

Cleaver himself has recanted the story, and has claimed that he never even told anyone that any epithets were used. According to the published reports, reporters talked to an African-American male they thought was Cleaver, but he denies that they talked with him. One could infer that "all blacks look alike" to reporters, and they just accepted a false report - a very common occurrence. Cleaver himself noted that there was a police officer standing right there who would have taken action if anyone had actually spit on the congressman.

He was never spat on. He was caught in vocal spray as a man shouted, "kill the bill!" If he was spat on then why didn't the congressman press charges against him? Because in court he would have lost the case and the media would be all over that story. The youtube video below clearly shows what happened.

chanting "kill the bill n....r":? Really? Just reported as a fact eh? No evidence, no witnesses of the chants (not isolated slurs by a random jackass-but chants). It's so depressing to see such credulity by the media.
I want universal healthcare. I also know that many in the tea party movement aren't too bright and don't seem to understand that their Medicare is government sponsored coverage. But this race hustle to create a villain and to, quite frankly, squash opposing views is depressing.

Here is the video of the incident.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

From the video it looks like he could have been spat on although you can't really tell whether it was intentional or not.

A person who works with Cleaver said he didn't want to identify the person but if you watch the whole video it kind of looks like he can't remember who it was and had all intention to have the guy arrested. Why else would he go back out with another cop and look for them?

I can't hear them chanting the N word at all though so Justin Kendell who wrote this article needs to get his facts straight and at least say "alleged" like a responsible reporter instead of painting the whole Tea Party followers as racist. It is exactly the same thing that the right does whenever people on the left(and even the right) say that they are unamerican and don't support the troops. It is stupid and very hypocritical on both sides.

Funny? cameras everywhere and no video tape of this long list of things? Spitting on someone is battery. Why were they no arrests? No witnesses coming forward? No description of the individuals in questions? None of the congressmen/women will answer question on this subject. Why? They compared it to the civil rights marches. They are right but they are not the good guys this time in history.

There was no spitting. Look at 1:20 in the tape. The Congressman was walking close to this man's mouth as he was shouting along with the others. The spitting is a despicable, despicable LIE and Mr. Cleaver owes the fine citizens of this country an APOLOGY.

This is the kind of made up lies I'd expect from a politician like Cleaver. I called his office several times over the last few weeks urging him to vote no - expecting all of the time that he wouldn't listen. I told his staffer that I'd do everything I could to make sure he didn't win re-election this fall. That's the only solution, we have to vote the self-serving lying, cheating politicians out and find someone with honor who can serve in their place.

not that it matters, but Congressman Cleaver didn't complain either. He declined to press charges and expressed forgiveness and pity for the ignoramuses. Did you read the article or are you just knee-jerk reacting?

No, you don't NEED video, but when there is a TON of available video at the very same moment at the very same event, and not one shred of video or audio evidence exists, you have to say that Cleavor (and only he purports to have heard it at this time) either made up the story for obvious reasons, or simply imagined that he heard it.

In the Barney Frank incident (which was likely staged, but that also can't be proven), the guy that shouted the gay slur was quickly and loudly admonished by all of the people around him.

Keep trying to make the Tea Party Movement look like an angry bunch of zealots. It might work. But in reality, they just want the government to back off a bit... They aren't even libertarians, but the left, because the T.P. movement is gaining momentum, is trying to discredit their emotion by making into some evil monster.
