Promoters of the 12 O'Clock Jump show are looking for a new venue after failing to come to terms with the new leadership at the Mutual Musicians Foundation.
12 O'Clock Jump has originated from the foundation, a former union hall for black musicians, since 2009. KCUR 89.3 airs the show, which integrates live blues and jazz with scripted comedy, live at midnight on Saturday.
Last December, foundation members elected new officers, who immediately challenged the arrangement the Theater League, which puts on 12 O'Clock Jump, had reached with the previous board, which was led by Betty Crow.
The new board expressed a sentiment that the Theatre League needed to come up with more than a loaner piano if it wanted to continue to produce 12 O'Clock Jump at the foundation. Theater League Director Mark Edelman explained to The Pitch in January that 12 O'Clock Jump had no profits to share. (KCUR is the only public-radio station to carry the show.)
The final 12 O'Clock Jump at the foundation takes place
on Saturday. The show will feature the music of vibraphonist Red Norvo.
Edelman says Theater League will look for "another great jazz room" for 12 O'Clock Jump. He hopes to find a suitable location by May 1. KCUR's night owls can expect to find previously broadcast editions of the program in the time slot during the month of April.

Why would they let this show slip away from them?? This put live Kansas City Jazz on the radio! Surely this isn't over a piano. I saw the show a few times...the room was always full at 11:45 and the bar was sellin drinks! The jazz and comedy were great and if this show takes off I wouldn't be shocked! What is that board really thinking?
