Kansas Jayhawk Tyshawn Taylor in PBS documentary 'The Street Stops Here'

Posted by on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 10:00 AM

Jayhawk fans, if you haven't totally soured on basketball for this season, you should check out The Street Stops Here on KCPT tonight at 9.

The Street Stops Here is a look at basketball blessed but financially struggling St. Anthony

High School and tough love coach Bob

Hurley Sr.

The doc's preview says:

This film reveals the coach's life-long struggle to inspire

and motivate

those around him in order to keep the doors of a poor, inner-city

Catholic school in Jersey City, New Jersey, open. This is also the story

about the teenage athletes fighting their way out of the poverty and

desolation that surrounds them, armed with little more than a basketball

and the hard wisdom of a fierce, demanding coach.

One of those kids is Jayhawk Tyshawn Taylor.

The film's Web site describes Taylor as possessing "the most raw talent

on the abundantly gifted squad. His athleticism helps him overcome

injuries on the court and obstacles in his life as he attempts to

achieve his dream of playing in the NBA."

Our friends at the Topeka

Capital-Journal play spoiler, saying the doc covers Taylor's

senior year at St.

Anthony's, the 2007-08 season when the Friars ran the table, finishing

with a 32-0 record.

If you miss tonight's showing, it airs again

April 1 at 1 a.m. and April 5 at 3 a.m.
