Kansas City radio icon Walt Bodine only works Fridays nowadays, giving the lucky duck a coveted six-day weekend. Good for him, but KCUR-FM 89.3 has a Monday through Thursday hole in its programming schedule to fill.
What's a public radio station to do? Ask the Internets what they want to hear in the time slot. KCUR posted a message on Twitter asking for programming ideas -- local and national -- for the 10 a.m. weekday time slot.
Send your ideas here. I doubt they found my Juggalo radio suggestion cute. And no, writing in Bodine's name is not helpful either.

Gina Kaufman rather than Walt or the new guy Jabulani Leffall. Mr Leffall does not have game.
I would like to have the Walt Bodine show format with Gina Kauffman as the host. Sound familiar? Well I miss it!
I think they should syndicate some progressive talk or get a progressive show for 4 days of the week. Thats just me. I personally hate having to listen to streaming radio in other states to hear some left leaning programs, it would be nice to have a local station broadcasting some commie, socialist goodness.

I disagree that long form journalism would necessarily eliminate callers; there could be space...say the last 15 minutes of each hour...that wouldn't distract away from the topic.
I also tend to believe that a moderator with some historical gravitas is needed: Ms Kaufman does not fit that bill (even if she weren't already planning to migrate southward). Which, I suppose, brings us back to Kraske; his show is indeed fine...as far as it goes. And that may be exactly what he wants. However, KCUR is public radio and I wonder if perhaps the air time could be better spent than sitting 'round shmoozing about plants in the spring etc etc...
The most important thing is to have a forum with a moderator with Walt's qualities, honest and forthright.
I think Gina Kaufman is great. Many may/have quibble(d). I think she would grow into it.
Kraske has a fine show, and extending it would be a fine idea. I'm not certain he would want to do it. And it would eliminate the call in aspect.
Serious local talk of the sort Walt did in his better days, with a younger host. If not Gina K, than someone of that ilk. I'm sure there are loads of folks who could do it. Radio is not rocket science, despite what some practitioners would have you believe ...
Gina may be (as I hear) a lovely person, but se comes across as a naif; my preference would be for KCUR to combine Kraske's show with that hour at least a couple days a week to do long-form journalism that does more than simply skim topics.
What would I rather hear than Walt Bodine?
A straight hour of Emergency Broadcast testing
The sound of my parents having sex
The Windows startup sound effect on repeat
Justin Bieber's album
Dear God, just get this man off the air.
