If you tell a cop "fuck you," you can get paid.

Scott Schaper
just scored $4,000 for dropping the four-letter bomb on an Olathe cop. (The ACLU also cashed in $1,000 for legal fees.)

The city of Olathe settled out of court. It all stemmed from a September 11, 2009, traffic stop in which Olathe police officer Craig Lundgren stopped Schaper for running a stop sign. Schaper was driving his kids to school, and they started crying during the stop. So Schaper let Lundgren know just how he was feeling as he was driving away. But Lundgren stopped him again.

The ACLU's legal director got involved and the city dismissed the

disorderly conduct ticket a month later due to the whole being

unconstitutional and violating the First Amendment.

Olathe got

off cheap. The city of Pittsburgh settled a similar case for $50,000.

I was arrested on black Friday this year. The AR state trooper that pulled me over is the only person who ever pulls me over and he cites me every time. After he got done citing me he told me to have a nice day then I said "fuck off." That is all, he arrested me for disorderly conduct. I think I have a case against him.

cops are just ignorant dorks who think they are above everyone just because they put on a badge attached to a uniform. just dorks from high school who want to get back at society. mmmmmmmkkkkkkkkayyyyyy? they always have to say that too. try going to war and do some real battle instead of handing out seat belt violations in johnson county. oh also, stop driving around in groups with other cops! You arent doing anything except wasting taxpayers dollars. try going to actual college instead of a weekend of tazoring yourselves and getting bit by dogs. funny, just redneck dorks!

I wish we could segregate all the people that have a problem with police. I wish all those people could live in their own drug infested, crime ridden, child molesting, thieving, murder promoting, pansy ass society and let the aclu fight for "criminal" rights for THEM. Also let that feeble society pay their own legal tab. Darren

cops harass people all the time. you dont become a cop to help people, those guys become firefighters and paramedics, cops like to carry guns and push people around. the kids were already crying, whatever emotinal damage the pig did was done. Schaper didnt dare defend his children in the middle of the investigation, he just had to eat a shit sandwich untill his release. your right morally he was an asshole he should just let that cop walk all over him and teach his kids that they have no rights. genius

Hey Anon, he was just letting his kids know that cops are assholes. It's better that they learn that when they are young since times have changed.

"Whether Schaper's act was right or wrong, what kind of father tells a cop to fuck themselves and gives them the middle finger in front of their kids? Legally he may have been in the right, but morally he seems like an asshole."

You sound like the asshole to me.

The father is a symbol of how far we have regressed as a society. The fact that the ACLU is involved is proof. Beware of them!!!

That cop can suck it up and push on, it's just the finger. And you think that is going to scar his children? How dare you make assumptions about what kind of father he is... i just wish you could see my finger now.

The right to freedom of speech is so much more important than the bruised ego of a cop. Isn't it odd that the people with the licenses to kill and guns have skin as thin as grapes?

Miscarriage of justice? We trust cops with special authority over the people, we arm them to carry out the law, and its a serious violation of that trust for them to abuse that authority. Disorderly conduct laws were not created so pansy cops can have the special right of ticketing someone who flips them off. Do you get to prosecute everyone who is an asshole to you? No, and the cop is abusing his authority by using his power to do so. Power-hungry abusers are attracted to jobs like that of a cop and you need to watch out for them and weed them out. The ACLU served the interests of the people here.

One can only hope that when Mr Shaper next seeks employment or applies for a loan, the prospective employer/loan officer will google the name and read about this man. Keep his name in the news! We can only hope that he will ultimately be held accountable for such an egregious miscarriage of justice.

Isn't it a shame Shaper gets upset that his children crying. His children definetly deserve much better than they've got. Can't imagine how they are going to turn out! I guess probably just like dad.

Not only is this guy an asshole, he is a stupid asshole! What kind of father is he, running a stop sign with his kids in the car, then cussing at the cop and flipping him off for doing his job and giving him a ticket it sounds like he deserved. Free speech....whatever!
It sounds like an excuse to be more of an asshole in general to me!
