I knew Helen Chambers - she was my tenant for a couple of years while she lived in Ruskin. She was always family-oriented and a good woman who did not deserve to be shot by some asshole. May God rest her sole and take care of all her children. Her family is in our prayers.

Dear Pitch: Thanks, as always, for keeping the city posted on the homicide stats. The violence surge that began in early 2008 continues: At this point in 2007 we were at 23 homicides--in 2008 it was 32, in 2009 it was 40 and now it is 33. Also, this "homicide surge" since the spring of 2008 has fallen almost exclusively on the black community: At this point in 2007 we were at 15 black homicides and 8 white/asian/hispanic homicides; now we are at 26 black homicides and 7 white/asian/hispanic homicides. Sincerely,Respectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans
