One vote is all that stood between the Kansas Senate overturning Gov. Mark Parkinson's veto of a bill that would change how late-term abortions are reported.
The 26-14 vote just missed the needed two-thirds majority for an override of the bill, which would have required late-term abortion providers to tell the Kansas Department of Health and Environment the "exact medical diagnosis" for the procedure. The bill also would have allowed doctors to be sued if a late-term abortion was performed illegally.
Earlier this week, the
House pulled off an override veto on a second try.
The last known late-term abortion provider in the state was George
Tiller, who was murdered by Scott Roeder in May 2009. Roeder
was convicted
and sentenced
to 50 years in prison without parole.
I'm sure this will be the
last time we hear about abortion in Kansas.
