i think wwhat some of the men on here are trying to say is that all to often men and sometimes women are accused of rape when its not true, too many girls cry rape just to get even with a man for some wrong doing...and those men if they are CHARGED with this crime and not CONVICTED it still goes on their record...or say an 18 year old dates a 16 year old...not a big age difference but all the same a "sexual assult" b this above story of the 12 year old is amazingly ignorant and wrong! how could any mother do that!!!!

nice effort, i like it. There are occasions where "sides" or "context" of a story are irrelevant. For example, the reporting of a 12 year old child being sold for sex.

In short, it's not possible for any factors or circumstances to justify, legitimize or otherwise lessen the depravity of these acts.

MIKE SAYS: "This is terrible; but I know what Jack is talking about involving the witch hunt. The fact is, if you're convicted of a sexual offense it goes on your record permanently; even if you are not found guilty."
Hey, dude. If you are convicted that MEANS that you were found guilty and yes it goes on your record forever. If you are Indicted it does not mean you are found guilty, just that there is enough evidence for a trial. A trial then affords you the opportunity to plead your case. It stays on your record but if you are found innocent or there is a mistrial that is part of the record and it is not counted as a conviction and you are not a sex offender.

"but the other issue is, what kind of work are children allowed to do if any? that question is not so simple."

I almost mistook this for a sincere reply from a resonable person. Silly me.

clearly if she was raped that was very wrong.

but the other issue is, what kind of work are children allowed to do if any? that question is not so simple.

And this sentence is considered enough? This monster ought to get life in prison and this guy the same.

What is ahead for this child even if she gets therapy is years of pain. And it is possible that it might already be too late. It depends on what kind of therapist she gets and how often and what kind of foster parent she gets.
How terrible.

Michael Jackson didn't enter a guilty plea, and Michael also didn't have an blood relative of the victim as an accomplice who had also plead guilty to charges of his/her own.

You are comparing apples and oranges to appholes and whoranges. A person no longer gets the benefit of the doubt in the legal system once they move from being the "accused defendant" to being the "confessed criminal."

After the confessions are in, all that is left is to protect the rights of the accused through the prosecution process, not to naively afford them more "reasonable doubts" attached to the confession, itself.

A knee jerk reactionary concern that these adults are going to be branded and scarred for life over this sex offender registry is quite misplaced in this instance. This isn't much we can do to these two that cannot be justified at this point.

This event is terrible; but i do know what jack is saying about the witch hunt. Fact is if you're accused of a sexual crime it goes on your record even if you are not proven guilty. Take Michael Jackson for instance. So many people believe him to have molested children, but really the evidence pointed against it. In other words "everyone is guilty." The news is very biased and warps a lot of people, but this may have been exactly as the article states.

The fact is, if you're convicted of a sexual offense it goes on your record permanently; even if you are not found guilty. In other words "everyone accused is always found guilty." The news and articles are very biased, but I do believe this could very well have been exactly as the article states.

I performed acts of bondage on adult men when I was 12, and I turned out fine! It was great.

Jack says:

"I don't believe this at all. Remember, you are only hearing ONE side of the story which feeds on the "tabloid" mentality of idiots..."

Todd Barkau and the girl's mother both pleaded GUILTY! The victim was only 15 years old. The legal definition is Statutory Rape. With those two facts alone what other side of the story do you need to hear?!

Word of advice, give the content of your comments substance and validity.

Jack says:

"Also, remember that there is a strong witch hunt going on in this country and EVERYONE accused is always found guilty. "

What facts do you have to support your claim of a witch hunt? Saying that "EVERYONE accused is always found guilty" is a generalization.
