Update (2:30 p.m. May 11): Kansas City's chapter of the Nartional Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws is heading to Columbia on May 17 for a rally protesting the way a SWAT team raided a home that led to a pit bull being shot to death and a Corgi being wounded. The raid turned up only a small amount of weed, a pipe and a grinder.
Meanwhile, Columbia police announced yesterday that they are changing their policies on how SWAT raids are conducted. Columbia police chief Ken Burton admitted at a news conference that "we did some things wrong."
"I am telling you we have
fixed those things -- that the public can be assured that a similar
incident will not happen again without someone's head rolling because
it's now policy," Burton said.
But so far as anyone can tell, it's still cool to shoot a dog during a raid.

Original story (12:30 p.m. May 10): The following video of
a Columbia SWAT team raiding a home in February is disturbing and
terrifying. Shots are fired. A corgi is wounded. A pit bull is killed. A
7-year-old boy and his mother are rushed to the front of the home while
police in full SWAT gear handcuff Jonathan Whitworth.
What deserved such an intense response? A small amount of marijuana
and
some drug paraphernalia, although police
believe Whitworth was dealing a
larger amount of weed.
Yep. Looks like the drug war is
working.

absolutely disgusting! This is the reason why people hate cops. Whomever gave the authority for this raid should be fired. Even if they found two pounds broke out into eighths this shouldn't happen. Why can't there be a less violent way of arresting people, especially when their intent was a marijuana charge.
