Sensible Missouri -- a group dedicated to bringing legal medical weed to the chronically and terminally ill in Missouri -- has scheduled a patient conference at All Souls Unitarian Church for May 29.
The conference is to educate people on the effectiveness of cannabis as a medical treatment, and learn how you can help lobby in Jefferson City to legalize medical marijuana.
"I've done lobbying for a while now, and even though the majority of
people support medical marijuana, our politicians have been
stonewalling us," says Mark Pederson, the group's
founder and president, and himself a medical marijuana patient.
"Consequently, we're trying to educate as many people as we can."
Kansas City's own Kate Meiners, a Democratic state
representative, has tried
twice this year to get a vote on medical marijuana without
success. The
last time the House voted on legalizing weed as treatment, the
proposal was soundly defeated. Of course, in that vote, supporters were
trying to sneak in medical marijuana by making its legalization an
amendment on a bill banning fake weed, K2.
Sensible Missouri's May 29 conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. at All Souls, 4501 Walnut Street.
