We're on the verge of Bike Week, which means Russ "Hot Legs" Johnson wearing spandex shorts and pedaling to City Council meetings again.
The actual kickoff pedal off (?) party is this weekend with a "Ciclovia" street festival called "Sunday Parkways" -- the streets of the Old Northeast are turned over to bicyclists, runners, walkers, roller bladers and anyone who isn't burning gasoline -- on Sunday, May 16, from noon to 4 p.m. Expect live music, dancers, bike tune-ups and Mayor Mark Funkhouser (hopefully not in spandex) and the council members.
Bike Week also gets an early start on Saturday, which starts the "Car-Free Challenge"
to see who can replace the most car trips by walking, biking or busing
it. Play along and you could win a bike.
There are a lot more events, so check out Bike Week's site.
