Update (7:15 a.m. May 21): As expected, Chiefs wideout Dwayne Bowe's current and former teammates are not happy with his ESPN The Magazine interview claiming that veteran players "imported" groupies for road trips during his rookie season (2007).
Players wives are beginning to ask questions. Ex-Chief Jimmy Wilkerson told the Star that his wife heard about D-Bowe's story on the radio and started asking questions.
"I told her it wasn't true," Wilkerson said. "Security was tight up there. They wouldn't allow anybody on our level."
Wilkerson made it clear that he wasn't an importer.
"He's talking about everybody on the team whether they'remarried or they're single. I've been married for about eight years. That
kind of makes me mad because the married guys respect their wives but
it makes us look bad. Now we have to answer to our families and to our
wives and let them know we didn't do anything like that and there was
nothing like that going on."
Wilkerson, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints, said Bowe will
likely be hearing from guys like Brian Waters, who will want to
know why he's spreading "all these rumors and all these lies."
Ex-Chiefs
fullback Boomer Grigsby also shot down D-Bowe's story, telling KSHB
Channel 41: "
"There wasn't anything of that sort going around with thecrowd that I ran with. And I think I can pretty much speak to the rest
of the team as well."
Former Chief Patrick Surtain sounded surprised -- and also got to
the heart of the matter:
"Wow! If it did happen, you shouldn't be telling a magazine. He probably broke the code for every NFL player that's ever played."
Bowe's former coach, Herm Edwards, told WHB
810 that his code has always been "what happens in the locker room
or on the field or around the players, it stays there."
Meanwhile,
Chiefs coach Todd Haley told talk show host Jim Rome that
he had a "long conversation" with Bowe -- the details of which he
wouldn't divulge (via Arrowhead
Pride). Bet Bowe can expect a lot of long conversations in the
future.

Original story (1 a.m. May 20): Kansas City
Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe probably isn't the most popular guy
in the locker room after his ESPN The Magazine interview.
In
the piece -- which isn't on newsstands until Friday -- Bowe reveals
that veteran players "import" women for road trips. Let's let Bowe put
his foot in his mouth explain:
"My rookieGlad that the Chiefs are helping out tourism across the country. Boweyear, we were playing in San Diego," Bowe says. "You hear
stories about groupies hanging out in hotel lobbies, but some of my
teammates had it set up so there was a girl in every room. The older
guys get on MySpace and Facebook a week before we go to a city; when a
pretty one writes back, they arrange to fly her in three or four days in
advance. They call it importing."
wasn't finished:
"Younger guys don't have the money to doI've never met Bowe's girlfriend, but I have a feelingit," Bowe added. "Anyway,
these girls had the whole top floor. They know everything about us --
first and last names, sisters and brothers, salary. This one girl was
talking to me like she'd known me for years. 'Hey, D-Bowe, how's
Grandma?' I'm like, 'How do you know my grandma?' She knew that I talk
about her every time I'm interviewed for a story.
"I told her I had a girlfriend, but she didn't care. She was wearing my
jersey, sitting in my lap, making it look like we knew each other.
Then she took a picture and put it on Facebook. That almost got me in
trouble."
she isn't nearly as frightening as a 300-pound lineman whose woman is
now asking him questions.

Not the most full-throated denial by Wilkerson. OK, so the women weren't on the official team floor. But what about the others?
