Let's be clear here, Pedro Guzman didn't punch his grandma in the face. But the 21-year-old did sock someone's 59-year-old grandma in the mouth.
Why would Guzman pop a granny in the kisser? She shut his car
door too hard in May 2008, and then told him to get off her property.
But give Guzman credit. He did warn the woman's granddaughter to "get your grandma ... or I will put her on the floor."
Guzman didn't hold back. He broke the woman's jaw. For four weeks, she
was on a liquid diet. She still has pain and headaches.
Guzman
is also a man of conviction. In a phone call recorded at the
Platte County jail, Guzman felt justified.
"People got to learn not to mouth off to people
they don't know," he allegedly said.
Guzman pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in March. He was
sentenced last week to 25 years in prison.
"It is beyond the
pale for a 19-year-old man to sucker punch a woman who is 40 years older
than he is," Platte County prosecutor Eric Zahnd said in a
statement.
"This defendant has repeatedly shown that he is unwilling to
live by the rules of civilized society and simply needs to be locked
away from the rest of us."
Guzman won't be getting out any time soon. He's required to
serve 85 percent of his sentence -- 21 years -- before becoming eligible
for parole.

The creep could easily disarm you and beat or stab you with those implements. I think mace, a hand gun or possibly a tazer are good better Personally, I have a gun with me at all times. If ever accosted and you have a gun, you should never extend your arm with it. Hold it with two hands pulled in close to your body and fire, without hesitation. Rotate your body to change aim, keeping the weapon close. Extending your arm, like cops do on TV, leaves you vulnerable to being disarmed by a much stronger man. That's what I was taught by a chief of police friend who took me shooting and proved to me how much more control I have holding it as I described, especially in a moment of high stress/panic.

I no longer have faith in the justice system. The punishment does not fit the crime. Far worse criminals out there have served shorter times in prison for far worse offenses. Events like this force me to think that there is no longer common sense in this world.

He was on her property. He wouldn't leave the property after telling him to do so. He punched her in the face with such force it left her with permanent physical damage. He might as well have had a gun and shot her. She is forty years older than he.

This article is very one sided. We have no idea what his prior record is, or that he even had one. Nor do we know what the granny said, though she apparently just kept on talking crap.
