Michael J. Tutera has been identified as the this morning's homicide victim in a gated community in
the 5300 block of Sunset Place.
Police say they are following up "some good leads" in the death of 49-year-old Tutera. If you have any information about this man's death, call
the TIPS Hotline 816-474-8477.
Tutera's body was discovered around 1 a.m.
His family runs nursing homing and real estate businesses under the Tutera Group name.
The Kansas City Business Journal reported in December 2009 that Tutera
was suing his mother, brother and sister, claiming the "committed
fraud, breached their fiduciary duties and intentionally misrepresented
the value of the bank to encourage Tutera to sell his ownership stake"
in Central Bank of Kansas City. According to Case Net, a motion hearing had been scheduled for July 7.
The Pitch's Charles Ferruzza snapped photos of the scene
on Sunset Place earlier today.

TO ANONYMOUS:stupid ass"*** this might be just another case 4u to comment on???get a f*"** out of this blog!!!
Well google "Randy Stone" and you will see a case that hasn't gotten much attention yet...but it probably will. 48 Hours has been filming but no one's been charged yet. Love triangle involving a preacher.
Killa city? That is sorta f'd up. It does seem like someone is proud of it and/or trying to promote it. Perhaps it is just what it takes to get folks to read your stories...I just don't know.
It is nice to see that white folks do some of the killing up there though. I hadn't seen a white person as a suspect of any murder yet. Good to know it isn't just one race I guess.
People should be ashamed of their ignorance and stupidity. For those of you who do NOT know Sonya and Michael; the were both loving and generous people with huge hearts, and they were madly in love with eachother. Obviously very few of you know what you're talking about. My heart goes out to Sonya and the rest of his family for their loss of such a wonderful man. I suggest for you to think about what you're going to say before you post in on the internet for everyone to see, which could potentially devistate someone that YOU DONT EVEN KNOW.
RIP MJT <3
@ Anon
Before I go any further, these are not my first feelings of worry/sadness at the way this paper has covered a murder. My friend Richie Restivo was murdered in 2004 and your cover story about him, though not too poorly done or badly researched, featured a headline that was in poor taste as well. I don't care if it's the column's name. As someone who honestly reads this site and paper a lot, I'm not going to feel embarrassed for missing this detail. I saw it when I saw it and I feel it's tacky. People are killed all over the world, it shouldn't make it a tongue in cheek affair.
Nothing about the Tutera story "Brought" me to this site, least of all his wealth. I do not know this man or his family. You hope while i'm here I'll notice how many other people are murdered? So now I'm the jerk because I have some sensitivity? Whether one person or 1000 die it's still someone's heartbreak.
Maybe you'll understand if one of your friends or family members is murdered and shows up in this crap. Until then, I'd take it easy on using catch phrases like "glass house". I've lived here for 25 years and am no stranger to the climate of KC.
alot of you dont know what you are talking about and should not assume of things when you aren't the family
My thoughts & prayers are with Sonya, Michael's family & all those who were so blessed as I was ... to befriend, love & respect... both Michael & Sonya. He will be missed deeply & always hold a very special place in our hearts! God Forgive those that have unrightfully judged against Gods will.
Dear Lauren Krum,
This blog called "Killa City" is in its second year of publication and it isn't just about Mr. Tutera. The point is -- we live in a very dangerous city and people are KILLED here every week.
The fact that Mr. Tutura was from a wealthy family brought you to this site. I hope while youre here you will notice how many others are murdered in the Kansas City area, step out of your glass house, and get some reality.
I grew up with the Tuteras and knew Mike pretty well. His father was one of the kindest most generous people I have ever known. This is very sad. My sympathy to the Tutera family.
This headline is in poor taste. I don't care what the circumstances are, he is someone's beloved child and someone's friend. "Killa city"? Really? I hope I live somewhere better than that, and I hope if someone robs and kills me the local paper has a bit more respect for the people grieving.
no he got kill by two 16 and 17 teen white kids.try to rob him
his wife sonya use to be a stripper back in the day, she lived up north in an apartment and probably had him killed for the $.
Casenet,
From the story, I'd say he inhereted a portion of a bank.
