Matthew Hendrix told

police that he met up with a group of armed men to rob Tutera.

Well, that was fast.

The Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office have announced that Matthew T. Hendrix, 18, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Michael J. Tutera, Kansas City's 41st homicide of the year.

According to the probable cause statement provided by the prosecutor's office, KCPD officers found Tutera lying on the floor of his garage at 5300 Sunset yesterday, dead of a gunshot wound.

Tutera had called 911 late Wednesday night to report that he'd caught Hendrix entering his house, but he'd made Hendrix leave. He told the dispatcher that Hendrix was "casing the properties" and asked officers to check out the area.

charged in Tutera's murder.

When he was arrested, Hendrix told the police that he'd been at Tutera's

home earlier that night and was told to leave. Detective Janice

Heins' probable cause statement reads, "[Hendrix] further said that

he had later met up with a group of males and was present while the

plans to rob the victim were made...He observed a few of the males with

guns. He admitted going back to the victim's residence with several

other males knowing they were going to rob the victim...Hendrix stated

that he was standing in the street, outside the victim's driveway when

he heard two shots being fired and he fled the scene and met back at

Loose Park with the other male suspects."
