Westport got shoot-y last night. A security officer opened fire on a vehicle he claims tried to run him over, according to reports (KCTV 5 and KMBC Channel 9).
The security officer claims he approached a car parked in a lot between Pennsylvania and Mill around 2:44 a.m., but the driver freaked out and tried to speed off but was blocked in the lot by pillars. So the driver threw it in reverse and the security officer feared getting hit so he started popping shots.
The driver fled and a passenger tried to run away but was arrested.
KMBC reports that the security officer suffered cuts on his left hand from flying glass -- and police are still investigating.

FYI for the ones that think Security Officers are just rent - a - cops. A Security Officer has the same jurisdiction at a Cop does when on their contracted property. EXCEPT transporting. Security Officers are there obviously for a reason. To keep peace and to help Police Officers out. Everyone cant be everywhere at once. So when people stop shooting people and trafficking drugs in an area then there wont be a demand for authority in those areas. Another thing, if the subject that was in the vehicle didn't have anything to hide, why did he panic?? If it looks suspicious then it is. Come on people. Get real.
i think it's funny how all you people say that the westport security guard had no reason to shoot at the vehicle backing towards him, what if that was you, would you have wanted to get run over by a car backing towards you seems like his training kicked in and he was in fear of his life . also why is it people make fun of westport security they are there for a reason to keep people safe! you should try talking to them every once in awhile if you go to westport often, alot of those guys are laid back, there people too...!
"Oh My God!, that is such a suspicious looking vehicle, I'm going to whup out my 9 and bust a cap up in here."
Pigs, wanna be pigs, they all suck. I hope he gets charged b/c it sounds like he lost his head. Go get a real job and contribute to our country's GDP!
It's bad enough when real police officers lie about circumstances to justify illegal use of force but now we have the Westport rent-a-cops getting away with it. How exactly do you investigate a suspicious vehicle while holding your firearm on it from behind, and then open up with a volley of shots? He should have been required to call the real police.
So the security had time to pull out his gun and shoot at the car without getting run over? Sounds like somebody wanted to use his pistol finally. And that passenger must have been half retarded to have got caught while the security guard was fulfilling his super hero fantasy.
