Update III (1:51 a.m. June 10): Barbara Porter, 44, is now accused of helping her husband, Patrick Neal Porter, whisk her 16-year-old daughter away to San Diego, California.
Patrick Porter, who faces child pornography charges, was arrested in California yesterday.
Barbara Porter is charged with aiding and
abetting the interstate transportation of a minor with intent to engage
in sexual activities, obstructing justice and harboring a fugitive.
Prosecutors claim Barbara Porter violated a court order by allowing her daughter to spend the weekend with Patrick Porter when
she was supposed to be in protective custody.
On June 3, the Porters
drove to the Wal-Mart at 159th and Metcalf in Overland Park, where
Barbara Porter dropped off Patrick Porter and her daughter, who left in a
2003 Ford Expedition. Barbara Porter also made sure Patrick Porter had a
duffel bag with clothes and $3,000 in cash.
Then on June 9, investigators learned that Patrick Porter
allegedly used his credit card at a Best Western in Huntington Beach,
California, from June
6-8. Phone records also showed that Barbara Porter had received calls
from the hotel.
If convicted, Barbara Porter faces between 10 years and life for aiding
and abetting the unlawful transportation of a minor and up to a
$250,000 fine; a maximum of 20 years for obstruction of justice and up
to a
$250,000.
Update II (6:54 a.m. June 10): Overland Park
police say Patrick Neal Porter, who now faces child pornography
charges, and his 16-year-old stepdaughter were located in San Diego, California.
Update I (3:19
p.m. June 9): The 16-year-old girl is still missing, and
Overland Park police are still looking for her 39-year-old
stepfather, Patrick Neal Porter.
Now, federal prosecutors
have charged Porter with possessing child pornography and engaging in
graphic conversations with a minor in an attempt to convince the child
to have sex with him.
If convicted on the coercion charge, Porter faces a minimum of 10 years
in prison and a $250,000 fine. The child porn charge comes with a max
penalty of 10 years and a $250,000 fine.
Original story (8 a.m. June 9): Overland Park police are looking
for a missing 16-year-old girl and her stepfather.
The girl was last seen with her 39-year-old stepfather, Patrick
Neal Porter, on June 3 around 10:30 p.m.
The girl is described as a white female, standing 5-foot-5-inches tall
and weighing 120 pound. She has blue eyes and brown hair. She was last
seen wearing a sweatshirt, shorts and flip flops.
Police describe Porter as a 5-foot-8-inch tall, 210 pound white male.
They
may be in a white 2003 Ford Expedition with University of Kansas
specialty plates (plate No. 19450). There is a Kansas Jayhawk logo on
the left side of the plate.

I just wanted to take her to Disney World- that's all. People are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Listen, my relationship with my stepdaughter hasn't been the greatest since she hit puberty. I just wanted to make sure she was progressing well enough to have sex with me......that's all- oh, and to see Disney World.
