Big 12 Minus Two commissioner Dan Beebe said the widely reported television deal isn't done. But, Beebe said in the teleconference with reporters, the projections are good for the next TV deal. Uh, OK.
As for the commitment of the 10 teams left in the conference, Beebe said Texas Tech hasn't pledged allegiance but he expects the Red Raiders to reaffirm their commitment at a scheduled board meeting today. Beebe gave the impression that their commitment is a formality. And don't look for the conference to expand.
"We're not looking to expand at all," Beebe said, answering a questions from 610 Sports' Nick Wright. He added there is "no interest" among the league's members in expansion. So kiss the football championship game goodbye (KC had played host to the game in the past, but it was likely head to Dallas).
As for Missouri, Beebe said he's honored and "delighted" that
they're all-in.
As for the exit penalties against Nebraska and Colorado, Beebe said the
conference could withhold revenue up to 80 percent of what the
Cornhuskers and Buffs would receive in the next two years.
So someone in the Big 12 Minus Two is going to get paid -- and it doesn't sound like it's going to be Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State or Baylor. Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel tweeted this:
Unbelievable. The five "leftovers" (KU, KSU, ISU, BU, Mizzou) agreed to sign over their share of CU/NU's buyout money to UT/OU/A&M.Damnit.
Showing 1-1 of 1
Like playing with the Suprano's, but...20 million more doesn't get you squat once you line up on the field.
Tiggers and Pinkel should be licking their whiskers to get a straight shot at winning the conference each year.
