Alice Zeorlin, the Johnson County mother accused of suffocating her
newborn baby girl, was sentenced to 123 months in prison yesterday.
Zeorlin, 26, gave birth
to the child in her parents' basement on May 31, 2009. She then wrapped
the baby in garbage bags and put it in a refrigerator. Her parents
found the child's body the next day.
In July 2009, prosecutors charged Zeorlin with first-degree
murder.
In April, Zeorlin struck a plea agreement, agreeing to the more-than-10-year sentence and pleading guilty to an amended charge of reckless
second-degree murder.
Remember, Kansas moms-to-be, you can drop
off your unwanted babies to "a fire station, city or county health
department or medical care facility" as long as the child is younger
than 45 days old. For
real.
