DEar Pitch: Thanks for posting homicide stats--most of the rest of the city's media is determined to keep these stats as hidden as possible. KCMO now has a "special" (and unwanted) distinction: It is virtually the only large city in the nation to have had more homicides in both 2008 and 2009 than in 2007--all over the nation cities have had falling homicide totals in 2008 and 2009 compared to 2007. And, it looks very much like in 2010 we will again have more homicides than in 2007. One suggestion for city's "talking heads": Stop insulting our intelligence by pretending to believe our city's high homicide rate is due to the recession. The recession is a national problem--if other cities are not having a surge in violence due to the recession (and they are not), there is no reason to believe that the recession is causing KCMO's homicide surge. None of you guys really believe the recession is the cause of the problem, and we know it. Ditto for blaming it on lack of adequate gun control. Sincerely and REspectfully, Ernest Evans
Crazy stuff happens in your city and all other cities in this country. Why do people kill each other so regularly in the concrete jungle? Better yet, how is it that so many sheep insist on living in such a place? Stay there, I'd hate to see the country getting crowded.....then it wouldn't be the country anymore. Amazing!
