  • A gimpy, egomaniacal king wannabe slays his way to the top in Richard III.

It's lonely at the top, especially when you've killed friends, family and country men to get there. Yet, even at his worst, Bruce Roach makes the villain Richard III likable, with his galloping limp and winking asides to the audience.

The cast of the Heartland of America Shakespeare Festival -- now in its 18th year -- drew a large crowd yesterday for an evening performance of Richard III (only two more performances remain). If you can't make it down to Southmoreland Park to catch one of the last shows, check out our slideshow from last night's performance.

The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival enjoys these slides of our 2010 summer production and our site at Southmoreland Park! We hope everyone realizes that we're the HEART of America Shakespeare Festival...here in the HeartLAND. But, our name is, as it has been for the past eighteen seasons, the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival. Check us out at www.kcshakes.org.
