Nothing says, "Welcome to Kansas City!" quite like disturbing images of puppy mills, slaughter houses and animal testing. Well, according to spotlight-loving animal rights advocate Jason Miller, anyway.
Miller and his nearly militant anti-meat, anti-clinical testing, and
anti-animal cruelty group, Bite Club KC, have leased a billboard on I-670 west
of downtown, greeting everybody entering the city to the unpleasant
display urging motorists to Google his posse.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Jason Miller. I sat across the table from him and had a cup of coffee. He is a quiet and sweet, thoughtful, considerate, helpful person. What he is doing is selfless and very admirable. I admire him for his strong convictions. It's extremely difficult to fight his fight in a world where it's so easy to influence others if you have a ton of cash. Face it, people...there's a humane way of doing things and there's an inhumane way. Which do you choose?

There is an abundance of books, films, documentaries, videos and other pictorals proving the horrors we inflict on innocent beings . Miller and his allies have many choices among all that material for dozens additional billboards which, let us hope, will shock us into changing our hurtful ways and consider others instead of living strictly to please ourselves and satisfy our greed.

Your statement, "They get a year or two of life, which is pretty good for them..." is completely inaccurate. The majority of farm animals live only a few MONTHS. If you knew anything about factory farming you would know those few months are filled with nothing but pain and suffering. Thank you Bite Club of KC for put the truth out there for all to see. Well when I found out that the BLM was going to do yet another unecessary round up of our endangered Wild Mustangs I called the White House and part of what I said was: Who listens? If you find this billboard depressing, imagine what life is like for the animals who endure the treatment depicted in the images. You sound selfish to call a picture depressing when this is the reality of billions of non-human animals everyday. Let's come together to end this depressing treatment by going vegan. This suffering is unnecessary. Every single spiritual leader in history has spoken against unnecessary suffering. And they've confronted depressing truths.

Ben, the "truth" usually IS depressing and disturbing that's why it's so RARE. Especially when someone like Jason is brave enough to face the ire of those too cowardly, blind, uninformed and apathetic to attempt to seek it out on their own. Those too stupid to understand how the truth benefits THEM. Those who without intestinal fortitude either secretly admire it in others, or must make a point of publicly quashing it for the threat it poses to their own delusions about themselves. I'm guessing that many of the people commenting on your article are of the latter persuasion.
The pharmaceutical companies are betting that you STAY clueless and indifferent to their murderous history. True animal rights activists would never use or advocate the use of violence or intimidation in order to spread a message of pacifism. For truly, that is what veganism is all about: non-harm.
Furthermore, Jason Miller, the ALF, PeTA, etc. -- they are NOT animal rights organizations, and their use of graphic imagery, subjugation of women, and demeaning attacks on individuals and organizations simply degrade the core premises at the heart of the animal rights movement.
Animal welfare is a confusing term, because it mixes up animal husbandry advocates with animal welfare, which is actually a good term for those who care about the well-being of animals who do not have the ability to care for themselves (domesticated livestock and animals bred into existence for our use, e.g. cats and dogs). Husbandry advocates, which is what you're referring to as welfare, simply work for concessions within the industry that exploits these animals. It never gets anywhere, it just looks good for fund raising purposes.
As the article implies, Jason Miller is out for attention. He may truly believe he is working for animal rights, but he is turning more people away from a more compassionate lifestyle than he is bringing in with the imagery and tactics he chooses to employ.
Finally, the websites that you listed are all part of the Center for Consumer Freedom, or CCF. It is a little known fact that ALL of the websites you listed are run by the same PR group. ALL of the websites from this PR group, on everything from defending high fructose corn syrup to attempting to debase the theory of animal rights, are paid for by huge names in the beef, milk, tobacco, fast food, and agriculture industries. Their funding/donation records are publicly available, as they are "non-profits." That couldn't be further from the truth.
Please don't knock something you don't understand and don't care to actually look into, and please discontinue representing these animal agribusiness lobbyist organizations.
