It's a good day for Kansas motorheads. NASCAR likely will add a second Sprint Cup race to Kansas Speedway's schedule as early as next year.
The racetrack's parent company, International Speedway Corporation, has officially asked NASCAR's brass to add a second Sprint Cup race to Kansas' schedule.
If NASCAR approves the plan (and an AP story on their website hints it will), Kansas will become a fairly important player in America's good ol' boy sport. The Speedway's racing docket already features one Cup race, second-tier NASCAR races, an Izod IndyCar
race and a Craftsman Truck Series race. Other tracks with a pair of Sprint Cup showdowns include the vaunted Daytona Motor Speedway and Alabama's Talladega Superspeedway (presumably it gets two because it's a super, not regular speedway).
And to think, some Kansas Citians ridicule NASCAR.

NASCAR's future is based on the casino at the Kansas track, so no surprise they will get a second race.
NASCAR is not doing well financially, all venues report a drop in attendance.
The question is what happens to the track when NASCAR hits bottom?
Every other track on the NASCAR circuit has something going on every weekend.
Rednecks supported NASCAR for generations, the posers for just a few years.
