Kansas City tallied yet another homicide overnight -- the city's sixth killing in four days.
A double shooting left one man dead and another injured at East 24th and Myrtle around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say the homicide victim, who was in his thirties, died at a local
hospital. The other man's wounds were not life-threatening. They think a
verbal altercation led to the shooting.

@get a clue, who gives a damn if it's on the eastside, westside etc, we have a problem and a system who doesn't know how to handle it! And yes they can do a lot more then what they are doing at the moment!!

Facts are facts, all the shootings and murders are on the east side where it is 99% african american. The police can only do so much to prevent it.
On many occasions I have emailed the police department concerning issues that I have in my community and not once have I received a reply.
Very frustrating to say the least. It's not like the police have not been made aware there is a problem, they just ignore it.
Yes, official KCMO has been perplexingly and tragically absent as crime has inreased in both violence and randomness, and there seems to be notion that somehow this very public responsibility can be contracted out to one not-for-profit group or another. Actually, of course, public safety is the most basic responsibility of elected officials in city government.
At the same time, authorities need to be able to "push against" responsible and cohesive neighborhoods to support the many residents who would simply like to live their lives in the safety of their own homes. Many great neighborhood groups work hard at those tasks every day, but more focus and assistance are necessary.
A unique approach to this issue is Operation Promise Land, which has grown from the tragedy of a young man's murder late last year. Check out www.operationpromiselandkc.org. The project is gaining a foothold in the 15 block area around Rockhurst where the murder took place.
It's this kind of innovation, creativity, personal commitment, and grass roots common sense that may very well lead us out of this ongoing tragedy.
