  • Sheriff Joe is coming for you.

The power-abusing sheriff at the center of Arizona's war on Mexicans won't be allowed to appear with a local anti-immigration crusader on a local college campus next week -- but that won't stop their crazy train from rolling through town.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio -- the Phoenix lawman to whom our sister paper, Phoenix New Times, has devoted reams of investigative reporting over the years -- was scheduled to appear with UMKC law professor, Kansas Secretary of State candidate and author of Arizona's controversial immigration law Kris Kobach at a rally next week. But the college hosting the event got cold feet.

Edwin Robinson, president of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, made the announcement yesterday, citing concerns over safety and the escalating-toward-nutso rhetoric surrounding the event and its controversial speakers.

"I don't mind a clash of ideology, but the rhetoric on both sides was escalating to the point that I was concerned," he told the Star.

But when one door closes on The Guy Who Will Make Kansas the Next Arizona and the Guy Who Made Arizona the Next Guantanamo, another door opens wide: The event has found a home at the Overland Park's Ritz Charles. Seven o'clock on Tuesday, baby. If you like lots of yelling and unclever signage, don't miss it.
