  • Will Charlie Weis' "star power" pull Tiahrt back from the brink?

Before he's even called his first play for Matt Cassel, the Chiefs' new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis is part of Todd Tiahrt's game plan in his truly ugly U.S. Senate primary race with Jerry Moran

Weis, who was fired in November after five years as head coach at Notre Dame, is scheduled to appear at a Tiahrt fundraiser in Olathe July 23. Tickets are going for $100 to $1,000 per couple.

Tiahrt and Moran have been burning through cash in a pissing match over who is more conservative. Weis is just the latest high-profile person to back Tiahrt, who's trying to cut into Moran's lead. Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity, the Tea Party Express, and the Kansas branch of Glenn Beck's conservative 9-12 Project group have all endorsed Tiahrt. Adding even more drama, immigration-obsessed (and apparently research-challenged) Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo recently yanked his endorsement of Moran and endorsed Tiahrt. Tancredo ripped Moran in a letter to his followers:

"After independent research, I have learned disturbing information about Congressman Moran's support of amnesty and benefits for illegal immigrants."
It's unlikely that even poaching Tancredo and having Weis headline an event will pull Tiahrt back into the race. A Survey USA and KWCH in Wichita poll in May showed Moran crushing Tiahrt, 52 percent to 24 percent, with stockpiles of cash to boot.

Sarah Palin and other national conservatives are definitely misguided in endorsing Tiahrt. What a disappointment from her!! She has been misguided on who to pick in this race.

As John Thune stated in endorsing Moran: Now, when the stakes are so high for our country, Jerry Morans principled leadership and conservative voice are needed in the U.S. Senate. Jerry will bring a much-needed vote of common sense for fiscal responsibility, fighting terrorism and deciding the future of our judiciary.

Jim DeMint also said: "Sarah has done a lot of good, but I don't think she knows the candidates as well as I do, and I think ... what I need in the Senate [are] people who really stand with the voices of America and who will help represent this awakening that's going on all across the country," DeMint says. "I know when I'm in a battle that Jerry Moran will stand with the people of Kansas and the people all around the country."

I'm also glad to hear Jerry supports the FairTax. If you don't know what it is, you need to go to FairTax.org.

I've had numerous friends comment that they had liked Tiahrt, but were dismayed by the tone and contents of his ads and are supporting Jerry Moran. Keep up the good work Jerry. The bottom line is: Jerry Moran really is an honest man! So my advice is don't fall for Tiahrt's or anyone else's garbage talk.

If you want a candidate who quits playing the usual political games of mud slinging then vote Jerry Moran. He will stand up to Obama. If you want status quo then vote for Todd Tiahrt.

Moran is the choice for August 3rd. He is a good person. He is doing the best job. Vote Jerry Moran. He is the real choice. Tiahrt is a fake. Tiahrt is losing anyways. There is a reason for that. People don't like Tiahrt's negativity. Tiahrt is a disgrace. He'll have to sit and think about why he lost when it is all over. Jerry Moran is the real choice on August 3rd. Moran leads big in a new poll. Something like 53 to 25.

Moran will still win becuase Kansas has grown to like Moran. He isn't playing petty politics while Tiahrt is. Will all those supporting Tiahrt be able to put down their swords and vote Moran in November? If not then you are part of the problem and not the solution. We have more pressing issues in the 3rd district for House of Rep.... Kevin Yoder could steal this debacle and win it. Then we are stuck with a liberal.

This bothered me initially, but after reading Mrs. Weiss's comments I am all for it. Sometimes one needs to look past politics/religion & focus on the big picture to accomplish things. Kudos to the Weiss family for supporting children with special needs. And of course, Go Chiefs!

Proudly sent my ballot in today for Todd Tiahrt. He is a great guy and don't worry, Moran isn't crushing him. Its neck and neck -that's why Moran is running such black ads. Just donated a little more to toddtiahrt.com too in honor of you Mr. Weiss. Keep your ads on Todd, you can take Moran out just like you did Glickman! Welcome to the Weiss family-its a good fit.

I am Charlie Weis' wife and we were both invited to go to the dinner because Mr. Tiahrt is a advocate for people with special needs and we have a daughter with special needs and a charity for people with special needs. www.hannahandfriends.org if you want or need more information. This is our reason for going and supporting him, let's have more support for our special people they are
the forgotten ones. Anyone who supports them are a friend of the Weis family.
