Kansas, Missouri jobsless rates fall -- barely

The latest local job news is good news, with unemployment rates falling in both Kansas and Missouri. And Kansas' rate has fallen even further below the national average, which labor experts still describe as "totally in the shitter." (They're full of technical terms, those labor experts.)

But don't start surfing porn at work just yet. The jobs still aren't easy to come by.

The latest federal jobs report, reported by the Kansas City Business Journal, still shows Missourians struggling to find steady work, with the statewide unemployment rate hovering just over 9 percent -- barely a click below the national average. And it's down less than half a point from last June.

Kansans, of course, are faring better, buoyed by their pluck and their distinct lack of St. Louis. The jobless rate there fell slightly from June to May, and only seven states in the country boasted lower unemployment. Those lucky states were led by North Dakota, where only 3.6 percent of workers are unemployed, and even all nine of them have some really strong leads.
