Apparently in Missouri, you don't have to endanger the life or well-being of your child to have the state take it away. You just have to be blind.

On May 21, Erika Johnson and her partner, Blake Sinnett,

welcomed their first child, Mikaela into the world at Centerpoint

Medical Center in Independence. A few hours later, the state's

department of child services welcomed Mikaela into a foster home,

deeming Johnson and Sinnett unfit to raise a child after Johnson had

trouble breast feeding her baby.

For 57 days, the only contact the new parents had with Mikaela was supervised in a foster home. Finally, with the help of Missouri's branch of the National Federation of the Blind, the couple got a lawyer who got tough with the state, and the case against the parents was abruptly dropped. The surprisingly gracious couple described the mess to KMBC Channel 9.

Star columnist Mary Sanchez got to the crux of the issue, pointing out that despite the parents being unmarried and uninsured, "those things don't portend bad parenting." Sanchez also keenly notes that the whole situation smacks of administrative bureaucracy and inflexible hospital policy.

Gary Wunder, president of the National Federation of the Blind for Missouri, in a press release pointed out the potentially chilling effect the state's actions could have on future blind parents. "We can not help but think that new parents who are blind in Missouri will avoid seeking medical and social services that they may need for fear that they will experience a similar ordeal," he said.

Let's hope that doesn't happen, and the state learns its lesson.

You're ate up dude. Call em' like you see em', but statements like the ones you've made are the reason other whites buy into the "all white conservatives are racist" bullshit. That sends their votes to the Democracic side right away (regardless of where Dems stand on other issues) only b/c they don't want to be associated with "racists". They consider us racists b/c statistically, Republican agendas don't support the worthless, regardless of their race. Coincidentally (or not) 39%! of blacks ages 16-19 are unemployed. Well, that was the age I developed work ethic and now I'm successful. Republican agendas don't support the unemployed. Since more blacks are unemployed than whites, it becomes a matter of race when Republicans say they want to cut welfare type programs.

Republicans also support tax breaks for the rich. Well folks, where do we get our paychecks? From the rich business men and women that have found success in this wonderful capitalist society. Tax the rich more, they move over seas, then we don't have jobs. Very simple folks. Don't run off the guys that make the $ in this country or we won't have any $ left in this country.......the poor will starve if all businesses are moved over seas b/c I'll no long have a paycheck for taxes to come out of for supporting them.

First, you are not black. That is just the white man lying to you because you are an unproductive pile of shit- just like the black man. If the shoe fits......
Second, all was well and good in the Sinnet home until they misplaced the baby. She is missing and they can't find her. Nor can the parents locate the phone to call for help.....a sad situation.
Third, any article that references Mary Sanchez should be used for the sole purpose of collecting pigeon shit at the bottom of a cage. Mary Sanchez can't tie her fucking shoes without calling the the shoestrings racists whiteys.
Is it sad to see this happen? Certainly. Can we stop this from happening? Well, have we stopped priests from banging little boys? Nope and nope.

All in all, Miss Patterson, your typing sucks. Are you fucking blind or something?

I forgot to add thatI'm black and blind!!!!!!!
so the state had absolutely no reason what soever to even think about taking Mikaela from them!!!
That shit wasn't even cool!!!!!
I just will never forget the day that all this came out and now we know how ignorant the state really is to blind people!!!!
I would have probably went to jail if they even mentioned calling social services on me!!!
Because if I can take care of Adrianna and Trinity, my two little girls, then I know damn well that Erika and Blake can take care of Mikaela!!!!!!
I'm so happy they have her back where she belongs, but I'll never look at Missouri state the same!!!!!
I just wish I would have known, but that's the way life rolls I guess.
I had a similar situation happen to me for something involving me and my daughters, but I wish they would think about taking my kids from me!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a tremendous amount of discrimination going on in this state and this world!!!!
What the hell for?????!!!!
Nothing!!!
Boy oh boy!!!
Like I said before, I still love him, but I'm glad Mikaela is with two terrific people that will love her to the best of their ability.
And I know Erika will make a great mama, and I don't even know her.
Keep it moving yal.

Wow!!!
I just still don't know what to say because that was and is still my first love.
I am hurt over this whole situation because they shouldn't have had to go through this!!!
I mean, I have 2daughters of my own and he knows all too well about them.
We dated in highschool right before him and Tia.
We grew up together and he's so smart and independent.
I'm just outdone by the whole situation.
I loved him dearly and still do, but I'm angry the state just thought they could do something so stupid and ignorant to him and Erika!!!!!!!
I wish them both the best with Mikaela and want them to know, that if they need anything, anything at all Blake knos my info.
He can get a hold of me at anytime, day or night and I'll do my best to make it happen for them.
Erika, don't worry girl, you're gonna make a wonderful mom.

HOLY CRAP! That's my ex boyfriend. And I'm not kidding. I dated Mr. Blake for 5 years.... So sad to see that they had to go through all of this drama. He's a fully functioning adult and can accomplish things sighted people cannot. I have no concern for their new child and I wish them both the best of luck in parenting...

WTF,

You're such a dipshit. That was completely hypothetical and used only as an example. Why did the f'd up government agency take these people child?

My best friend's neighbor had a daughter with a broken arm. Good people that have never done anything but love their children. The SRS took her away for about a week doing investigations. They shouldn't have the power to do that. The case in this story is just SICK. Wonder why people snap and start mowing mother fuckers down at McDonald's? It's b/'c people do shit like taking their children away for no reason.

"I can't take my son to the Dr. for a broken arm b/c the commies might accuse me of abuse and take him away,"

You have a child with a broken arm and you have not sought medical care?
Uh... This would be the epitome of bad parenting and actually WOULD warrant the child being removed and given to .... I don't know.... Hyena's to raise because they would at least have better skills then this would indicate.

Man You and Fred Phelps must love one another.

No discussion since the race card has already been mentioned?

We can't even address real problems b/c all of you incessantly cry racism on everything. I thought having a black president might even up the odds a bit to where whites could talk about blacks like blacks talk about whites. I was wrong.

Realist,

C'mon. Tea-party, racism, it's all BS. The government just has too much power over us. I can't take my son to the Dr. for a broken arm b/c the commies might accuse me of abuse and take him away, despite the fact that little boys have been breaking their arms doing stupid shit for the past....I dunno.......FOREVER! Everybody is always crying racism and it's ridiculous. If you don't care for a particular race for statistical reasons, you're portrayed as a monster. The pieces os shit that decided to take this person's child were doing it b/c they think it's a good cause. Well, that's not much different than your mission. You think what you're doing is standing against racism when in fact, you're only adding fuel to the fire. Attack me, go for it. I know how you folks work. This particular instance is a matter of the government getting too involved with private matters.

The fact that they're apparently a mixed-race couple couldn't have anything to do with it, right? No racists around here - just ask the teabaggers.
