  • Blue meth is out now ... just like on Breaking Bad.

Meth heads, blue meth is hitting Kansas City's streets, and it's awesome ... wha? The high is the same? But the chemicals are different, right? Uh, no. But it's blue.

Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin posted the pic on the right

on his

blog and also posted a few theories on why meth is blue, like

beating the field test (it doesn't) and a manufacturer's mark. But

here's my favorite:

Still another hypothesis is that the

manufacturers are simply

copying the TV show on AMC called Breaking Bad,

which features a

character who makes meth and dyes it blue.

Haven't seen Breaking Bad, but I hear it's

pretty great. Corwin also notes that "almost all the meth we've

recovered lately has been relatively strong,

thus presenting even greater risks than meth normally does." So we're in

a golden age of meth. Great.

nothing is died blue, and its not a result of being "pure". The Blue color in methamphetamine, specifically in "breaking bad" occurs when Meth is made using the 1-P2P route, which makes the meth blue. This is due to a higher light refractory index of the 1-phenylpropan-2-amide, giving blue tinted crystals. The P2P route is rarely used to make meth, as 1-P2P, Methylamine and Phenyl-Acetone are hard precursors and solvents to acquire.

However, MDP2P is almost ALWAYS [in combonation w/ isomerized Safrole oil (IsoSafrole)]used when making MDMA. If one added blue-lake FD+C dye to meth before the final ether wash & re-crystalization it would look REALLY DARK blue, not light blue.

On the show the meth isnt died blue. It is created in an actual lab, and not in a make shift lab. They use pure chemicals instead of deriving chemicals from things like sudafedrin. The different color is caused because it is a purer process. I hope this meth is just died blue, because if it isnt then this will be some very potent meth.

Realist,

You're right. The average cook's product isn't safe. You've got to find someone intelligent that's doing it (much easier said than done).

The Golden Age of Meth was the late '60s, when you could still get the pharmaceutical version. Abbot Laboratories, proud manufacturers of the Desoxyn Gradumet, was right on Westport Road right across from where World Market is today.

This bathtub shit you get today will fucking kill you.(yeah, the pharmaceutical stuff will kill you too, but much more slowly and pleasantly) You'd have to be a damn fool to risk putting that crap in your body.

I thought the golden age of meth had already come and gone. Not near as many people doing here now as there was before. Of course, we were doing it in the sticks when Annahydrous was easy to come by. Now all of the tanks are locked so cooks are using different ingredients. Perhaps the epidemic is stronger in urban areas now whereas it was much stronger in rural areas before.

I can only assume this will refuel the Strawberry Quick meth rumor at Halloween. But honestly, somebody had to do something to wrestle some of the child-user market share away from Jenkem.
