The former executive director of Jackson County's Court Appointed Special Advocates program claims she was fired because of her sexual orientation, and now she's suing the office, the MO Lawyers Blog reports.
Carol Grimsby claims allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female staffer led to her getting pink-slipped on September 16, 2009 -- a day after she filed a discrimination complaint with the Kansas City Human Relations Department.
MO Lawyers Blog explains:
Grimsby claimed she and the staff member -- whose name she didn't
divulge in the lawsuit filed Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court --
are both lesbians. However, the two denied having a sexual relationship
with each other during a July 2009 meeting with several members of the
Court Appointed Special Advocates' Board of Directors, according to the
suit.
While a board investigation into the alleged relationship was
"inconclusive," Grimsby claims she was placed on a performance plan, was
excluded from most board meetings and barred from attending fundraising
events.
CASA officials aren't talking, which is probably smart.
