Update (7:28 a.m. July 22): Kansas City police found homicide victim Nick Dutcher's 2009 Ford Escape last night abandoned in the 4200 block of East 56th Terrace. Police are still looking for Dutcher's killer and tips (so if you've got any info, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477).

Meanwhile, Dutcher's co-workers at NBC Action News are remembering the 30 year old and his love for storm chasing and Celine Dion.

Original Story
(1 p.m. July 21): Nick Dutcher, an assignment editor at KSHB Channel 41, has been identified as Kansas City, Missouri's 62nd homicide victim of 2010.

Dutcher no-showed work, so KSHB employees called police and requested a

welfare check. The 30-year-old's body was found inside his Ruskin Heights home Tuesday in the 6900 block of East 114th Street.

KSHB

released this statement about Dutcher's death:

"We

are all saddened and shocked by Nick's death. Nick worked on our

assignment desk for the past year and was at his best during severe

weather coverage. He was always cheerful and friendly with co-workers

and viewers and had also spent several years as volunteer for our "Call

to Action" service. This is difficult not only for Nick's family but

also for all of us who have worked with him. It's a very sad time."

Dutcher's

cause of death hasn't been released, but police are

investigating his death as a homicide. They are also looking for his

gray 2009 Ford Escape with Missouri

license plate No. WA4-D5R. If you see it, call the TIPS Hotline at

816-474-8477.

Dutcher's MySpace page

says he was a 1998 graduate of Ruskin High School. It says that he

worked at numerous Kansas City television stations, including KCTV 5 and

KMBC Channel 9.

Nick Dutcher was a personal friend of mine and I am going to miss him dearly. We met online through our love of Celine Dion and her music and became very good friends. I knew him for 10 or 11 years and we talked often on the phone and online. I was blessed enough to get to meet him in person one time and he gave me a big ole bear hug and I've been looking for". Thats the type of person he was always there for his friends. He was a great friend and person. Its hard to believe he is gone but he will live in our memories and as one of our favorite Celine songs says " Our hearts will go on" rest in peace my friend know that you were loved and will be missed by all who knew you.

surprisingly I knew this guy. Had one class with him at Johnson county community college in Overland Park. he said he went to Penn Valley on the side. That was in 2004. We rode his van to KMBC to get a tour back when they were downtown. Joel Nichols class.

Nick Dutcher was a wonderful person. I knew him since he was in grade school. He loved the weather and news with a unbelieveable passion. I know he has touched the heart of everyone he came in contact with. I am so sorry he left this earth in what seem to be a violent mannor(I understand by the reports I read, he was killed). He will be missed. To his family, I wish God will take away your pain and remember him with a smile. It was a pleasure knowing him.

man, that kid never did wrong to anybody, and i hope this commnent board ceases become the type that shows humanity is less human than we all think. that young man NEVER harmed a soul, and was nothing but courteous, giving, and respectful in the time that i knew him, and if memory serves me, all he every wanted to do was work for tv, and worked hard to make his dreams happen, which is alot more than most of us can say.

this is a damn shame, the city needs to wake up...

I see that they mentioned his love for Celine Dion but the forgot to mention me. I doesn't take a genius to figure out that he wanted to look and be built like I am.

Sincerely,

One fat ass carpet muncher
