Original

story (12:30 p.m. July 30): A dispute over a girl may have led to

rare homicide in Parkville on Thursday. Police have identified the

victim of a drive-by slaying

on Highway 45 as Spencer J. Crosthwait. The 17-year-old was

driving his prized black Ford Thunderbird with a friend when another car

pulled up next to him, and someone fired a single shot from a rifle,

killing Crosthwait.

KMBC is reporting that Crosthwait's passenger managed to guide the vehicle into a Price Chopper parking lot, where he died. The alleged shooter's wheelman turned himself in to police yesterday, leading authorities to two other suspects. Eerily, Parkville police chief Kevin Chrisman says Crosthwait uttered the name of his murderer to his passenger before dying. Parkville reportedly hadn't had a homicide in more than 15 years.
