The Kansas City Chiefs are worth $1.03 billion according to an analysis from Portfolio.com and Biz Journals. Still, that doesn't make them successful, the study found.
The economy nerds based their rankings on regular season winning percentage, average margin of victory, playoff results, average home attendance, percent of stadium capacity and franchise value. None of which is the club's forte.
Taking all of that into account, the Chiefs are ranked
28th of the 32 clubs. The scores that really sunk them was their .250
winning percentage and failure to make the playoffs.
Still, even
if the Chiefs have another dismal season (and their first preseason
game didn't instill a lot of confidence),
chances are good that their ranking will go up next year with fans
eager to checkout the gussied-up Arrowhead.
The Chiefs didn't
seem to take the news badly, though. The Star reported
that coach Todd Haley gave his players Monday morning off and
sent them to the movies.
Of course, it could have been worse for
the Chiefs. The ever-pathetic St. Louis Rams were deemed less
successful, coming in at 31st following a 1-15 2009 season. The Dallas
Cowboys were rated as the most successful team (selling out a stadium
the size of a metropolitan area will do that for you). And the Detroit
Kitties earned the dubious honor of being the least successful club.
