If TV isn't lying to me, Internal Affairs isn't the most popular department on the force. So Kansas City Internal Affairs detective Josette R. Young's arrest for wrecking an unmarked police car and driving under the influence last weekend isn't going to endear her to her colleagues.

A witness saw Young driving northbound on U.S. 169 Highway in a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria Friday night around 11:45. She allegedly tried to pass another car, lost control, went through the median, crossed the southbound lanes and went off the road, coming to a stop. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Officers reported smelling a "moderate" odor of alcohol on Young's

breath, and also noted her

eyes were watery and bloodshot, and she was vomiting and mumbling.

Young was taken to North Kansas City Hospital, where she was met by a

sergeant from Investigative Affairs. Somebody's in trouble.

Young complained that her head hurt and then refused to talk to the

sergeant, which is just ironic. And when an officer tried to track her

eyes, she closed 'em and refused to open them. She also refused to

submit to a blood test or acknowledge her Miranda rights, instead

choosing to just stare at the officer interviewing her.

Young

was cited for DUI and careless driving. If matters weren't bad enough, the Star reports that Young was "off-duty but on-call when the wreck

occurred."

The unmarked cop car had

undercarriage, front bumper and rear bumper damage from running over

the KCPD's image.

What the hell is wrong with people? Learn how to spell, especially the person that wrote this article. It looks like something from a high school newspaper. Also, why is every piece of news in this city a black/white thing? Shit, I would like to be able to read intelligent comments from people but that seems to be all they can come up with.

Wow, to answer your question Kathy, this happened to her because she CHOSE to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking.

There is no excuse that's acceptable in this situation, and personally I think those with the responsibility of enforcing the law should be held to a higher standard as an example.

This detective puts her life on the line everytime she goes on duty. Maybe some support would be in order here. Last time I looked, we are all human and have a crisis or two in our lives. Does anyone know why this happened to her? Possibly pressure of keeping this mess of a city in order and running from the news media while trying to do her job. I am believing more and more that we ARE a cowtown. Maybe Elizabeth Alex and the snooty news anchors should go to a city where there, , is style and a beauty/botox salon on every block. They would be happy and not feel the need to come down on someone trying to protect their asses. Obviously they gain pleasure from reporting about those who do.

If anybody is surprised at a cop driving drunk, you obviously don't know cops, especially big city cops. They do it almost every night, but their fellow cops almost always give them a pass. It's professional courtesy.

anon, your observations are spot on. I especially like your "Raytown" scenerio! According to the police report (which has been included in most news releases), the officer in question is indeed caucasian.

If she were black they would have a huge bad looking picture of here on the headline. So no, she is white. Its really funny if you think about it. They would show the picture if she were black, but not if she's white so that you can assume she is black. Trust me white people do their share of crime and idiotic things all around this city. Its just not as funny or entertaining when they do...or at least the media doesnt make it that way. I would like to see the photo myself. Probably a cute little white woman, who can't do any wrong.

And to add to that they would have painted her as some evil troublesome employee who "resisted arrest" and "cursed officers". They paint this woman like she was minding her own business and was just a little drunk. The black woman would have "reaked of cheap liquor". Watch the news. When crimes happen in OP or Olathe its like the cameras dont work. If it happens in Raytown, they will interview 800 people and air the most retarded, even if they have nothing to do with the story.

Don't worry folks....she won't get in much real trouble. She might lose her job, but I'm sure the boys in blue will cut her some slack. After all, she is a higher grade human than the rest of us....she's in law enforcement!
