Roy Blunt denounces Ground Zero(ish) mosque, while Robin Carnahan manages to avoid the topic (update)

Update (4:40 p.m.): Robin Carnahan did answer questions about the mosque today. Update below the original post.

Original post (2 p.m.): In this era of reading and riding the tea leaves, it was only a matter

of time before heartland politicians were asked where they

stand on the "Ground Zero Mosque," the Muslim community and worship

center planned for a private development a couple of blocks away from

where the Twin Towers crumbled.

Roy Blunt spoke up recently, and his answer will surprise you, if for some reason you always thought Roy Blunt was a Muslim cleric.

In today's Star, Steve Kraske reports that both Blunt, who's running for U.S. Senate, and Kit Bond, whose seat Blunt is gunning for, have spoken out against the proposed mosque.

While campaigning in Kansas City today for the U.S. Senate,

Republican Cong. Roy Blunt was asked by reporters whether a mosque

should be built near the site of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

No way, Blunt said.

"We

constantly talk about what's appropriate to put next to a 150-year-old

Civil War battlefield," Blunt said at Union Station. "I think it's

totally appropriate to talk about what should be near ground zero from

9-11...I do not think it should be built there."

He's right, of course: Our time-honored freedom of speech makes it totally appropriate to talk about what should be near Ground Zero, just like our time-honored freedom of religion makes it  appropriate for New York Muslims to worship and study in the same neighborhood as the former World Trade Center complex, just as our time-honored freedom of debauchery makes it appropriate for strippers and gamblers to congregate in the same neighborhood.

But Blunt either doesn't see it that way, or knows that most Americans don't see it that way, so his heels are dug in. So are outgoing Sen. Kit Bond's.

"If we tried to put a United States church at Hiroshima after World War II, that would have frayed relations tragically," he told Kraske, apparently under the impression that American is a religion.

Blunt's opponent, Robin Carnahan, has not yet taken a position on the issue. But don't worry: It's only a matter of time until a reporter asks her, probably during a discussion about something boring like jobs.

Update: Well that didn't take long. Reporters asked Carnahan about the mosque today, and Kraske just reported her response:

"If your goal is to do that and bring all

faiths together it might make sense to put this someplace else because

it's clearly become divisive.

"Again, it's not a decision that I am going

to make for those folks, but it's something I hope they will seriously

consider as they decide how to move forward."

Ah, it's hilarious watching Republicans/Conservatives piss all over everything they claim to believe about private property and the rights of property owners. Hypocrisy - it's not just their job, it's a way of life for these morons.

Robin Carnahan stated, ..."Missouri, that mecca of progressivism, in the middle of the country, could have TWO Democratic women senators..." I thought she didn't want to take a position on the mosque in New York. She stated,"Again, it's not a decision that I am going to make for those folks." Yet, she uses the term mecca. Doesn't she know that is the city the Muslims pray to? To this day, Mecca remains strictly closed for persons not of the Muslim faith. Robin does not want to take a position on the mosque, yet she wants to be a US Senator. I say the mosque should not be built at Ground Zero, it would be a symbol to the Muslim world of the conquest of 9/11. If Robin does not want to take a position on difficult issues she should not be running for Senate and people should not vote for her.

The Victory Mosque is just the visible tip of a very large iceberg. Beneath the surface of Western societies, Muslims are waging a campaign of infiltration, subversion, sedition and social sabotage, with the objective of destroying our countries and way of life from within.
