Down syndrome and lived with his father. Not true considering authorities found the boy in Perez' hot and filthy attic.
And this will make you sick: Neighbors told the Star that Perez was pregnant.
Then there's disgusting bit:

on Thursday when he entered the residence and found the home and attic
covered with feces and mold.

Johnson County Sheriff's deputies
found a malnourished 6-year-old boy in an attic Tuesday night, hours
after his 26-year-old mother, Rachel L. Perez, was arrested.
A relative was worried about the boy, so deputies did a welfare check at
a De Soto home in the 8200 block of Center Drive Tuesday evening around
5. The boy's mother claimed he wasn't home, and deputies arrested her
on an outstanding warrant. Hey, would a mother lie? Apparently so.
The relative requested deputies go back to the home, which they did
around 11 p.m. They found the boy in the attic. He was "very fragile,"
"extremely thin," and "his skeletal structure could easily be seen due
to his level of malnourishment."
If you can't trust a mother, who
can you trust? Looks like no one. The boy was taken to Children's Mercy
Hospital and is in protective custody.
Perez is charged with
abuse of a child younger than 18 and aggravated endangering of a child. She's expected to make her first appearance at 1:30, presumably after eating a lunch that she doesn't deserve (if this is all true).

this makes my stomach turn!! i cant have children and it makes me sick when woman who are blessed with children no matter there disabilaties,illness,ect...abuse them.physicaly or mentaly,,this is sooo sad...i dont agree with abortions either thats killing a baby..theres plenty of woman who cant have children..ADOPTION!!! or just kill yourself dont harm a child..thats sick,,i dont wish bad things on noone..i dont no what was going on in her head..but god is the only 1 who knows an she will have to stand before him soon..

Mental illness or not God granted us all with common sense and wrong is wrong! No child is asked to be in this world and if we don't want the responsibility of parenting; we are in America and could freely give up those rights at anytime. Her mental illness gives her no slack she has ruined this child's life. Even after his physical recovery his has a lifetime of mental pain complements of his own mother. How f'n nice lady!
I think shes nutts and need help, i just had a baby and shes 9 months i would't treat her no where near that way where was her family and the littles boys daddy. i would't treat a person that did me wrong like that shes needs to be stripped down to her underwear and thrown in a dark hole with rats and roaches and let her see how it feels to be neglected, she makes me sickto my stomach if i get a hold of her ill kill her in the name of the little boy. but God said venges is his and she shall sufffer for the rest of her life.
This is why abortion should not only be legalized, but encouraged by doctors. This woman should have been told from the get go that she has no reason to bring a child into the world. She is obviously a white trash piece of shit, and I'm sure she was before she got knocked up.
Now I don't know if she went to regular check ups while pregnant but if she did the doctor should have told her to get an abortion so she would never be allowed to treat her child like this.
As a father of two, I cannot understand how anyone could do harm to a child, theirs or otherwise. These stories keep me up at night.
As a sufferer of bipolar disorder, some very crazy thoughts go through a person's head during depressive episodes, and people can make very regrettable decisions. I personally have never had thoughts about hurting my children, but some do.
I don't know if this girl was bipolar, or suffering from any mental illness, and I'm not about to let anyone off the hook. I did, however, read an article yesterday that estimates 2 children a day die purposely at the hands of a parent. Interviews with parents who have committed filide show that they have suffered with depression, and have felt completely overwhelmed. The pressure of being a parent can be overwhelming to some, the pressure of being a parent of a child with special needs can be almost unbearable (even for a stable parent). So why do I say all of this, because I do believe in, "It takes a village." We evolved as social beings, but we have gotten away from this and people who may require extra help do not receive it, or push it away, and children die. Kudos to the grandmother for speaking up. Her actions saved that child. As each others neighbors, we should follow her lead. It is our responsibility to look out for each other and care about our neighbor's well being. If you know of a person in need, do not turn a blind eye. Be a neighbor and get them help, by whatever means necessary.

I absolutely agree with Katy. I have not been blessed with children so far, but I know I would not subject them to such cruelty. My thoughts and prayers to that poor boy and his recovery.
As a mom this enrages me! Take that boy, STARVE her, and then mandatory hysterectomy! Slap on a healthy prison sentence and make her register as a child abuser and never to be allowed around children again!!!
As the mother of a 5 year old boy with DS - just as a mother period - I am thoroughly sickened and disgusted with this story. I have an overwhelming urge to drive straight to the hospital and volunteer everything I can to help the poor boy. I hope this woman rots.
